This may or may not be my last Play! by Sephora for awhile. I did cancel the subscription but it’s possible I may pick it back up again. I canceled pretty much every box I have at this point, but I might pick a couple of the less expensive ones back up. We’ll see. This was a really great box, so I might find that I am going to miss it.

Play! by Sephora

Price: $10/month

Box Type: This is a beauty box that contains deluxe samples (and occasionally full-sized) products that can be found at Sephora.

Why you’ll love it: Ummmm, did you see it’s all fun products that come from Sephora? Some boxes will send you random products from brands you’ve never heard of before but Play! by Sephora will only send you brands from their own store – basically all high end fun things you are excited to try! Here’s a breakdown of the benefits:

  • The awesome products, of course.
  • The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
  • Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!

Here was the little insert they included with information about the products. These are pretty cute.

And here’s what we got this month!

And… here’s what we got out of the packaging. Haha. Are both pics necessary? No. Did I take them and want to include both? Yes.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold ($29): I’ve received a few of these Caviar Sticks in boxes over the years, and one of the best things about these little sticks is that they do NOT budge. So if you are a one-and-done kind of girl, you could get one or maybe even a couple of these little sticks, smudge them all over your lids, and then, voila. You’re done. And you’re probably done for like 2 days because seriously – they do not move.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let’s Go Crazy ($27): I really like the formula of these Velvet Matte lip pencils! I feel like I’ve received a few in red in past boxes, and they are really nice. They aren’t budge-proof by any means, but they are fairly easy to use since you don’t need a separate lip liner.

SEPHORA Collection Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic ($7): It looks like Sephora is phasing out this lipstick in favor of Sephora’s new #Lipstories lipsticks. While it looks like this particular color is out of stock, there are a few other colors on sale for $7, so if you are interested in a good sale, check it out! The formula isn’t anything life shattering, but it’s a nice matte lipstick, and currently at a drugstore price. However, the new #Lipstories lipsticks are only $8, so that’s a pretty good deal, too!

Swatches of the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Rose Gold, NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let’s Go Crazy and the SEPHORA Collection Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic

Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel ($48): I am getting more into Peter Thomas Roth products, as I recently purchased his Mega Rich Intensive Anti-Aging Cellular Eye Cream, and I really like it! I also really love this Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream, but I haven’t splurged on the full-size version yet. It’s so good tho! I’ve gotten two samples of it and I love it. So back to the actual product. This is a gel that you apply to dry skin and you sort of rub it in and it balls up and exfoliates your skin.

Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb ($48): I actually got a little sample of this in a Belif Bestsellers kit I bought awhile back to keep in my car, so I can wash my face after spin and run errands when I need to. This is a really nice eye cream, and since I’m now trying to live without my La Mer eye cream (why is life.) so I have been trying a few other brands. I’m excited to put this into rotation after the PTR one I mentioned above!

Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume ($85): I normally do not like Atelier perfumes but I typically do like vanilla scents and by the name of the perfume, you might guess that there is a bit of a vanilla vibe here.

Vanille Insensée, an electrical current runs through the subtle sweetness of vanilla, jasmine, and fresh lime to bond with rich oak moss, woods, and spicy coriander. Complete with a handcrafted leather cap and a removable pump that allows for splash or spray use, this cologne brings to mind breathtaking and magical moments.

I do really like this – it’s a darker vanilla scent, a bit similar to the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon, but a little spicier. I do like this scent but not enough to buy the full-size.

Final Grade: A

I really loved this February Play! by Sephora Box! It actually made me re-think my cancellation, as I am really excited about the PTR exfoliator, the Belif eye cream and the NARS lippie. Honestly, all of it, let’s be real. This was a great box.

  1. The Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb is one of my favorites ever. It’s one of the very few eye creams I think is worth a damn, as you know my disdain for all manner of expensive eye skincare. It’s just that Kbeauty gets eye cream right…every…time. The moisturizing gel texture does half the hydration work already…the bounciness and suppleness are baked in, abracadabra. So many eye creams claim to hydrate but leave that area looking dry and matte on me. And short of using oils, I can never achieve dewiness in that region…until Moisturizing Eye Bomb. It’s literal perfection.

Unfortunately, I just learned Belif is no longer Cruelty Free as they now sell in China, so I don’t know what I am going to do for an alternative 🙁 That’s the problem with Kbeauty, unfortunately. Belif was one of the few CF brands I knew about! le sigh.
