It’s been a long time since I’ve purchased nail polish. After years with Julep, I really have a lot of nail polish and I don’t really need more. Honestly, I probably have a lifetime of polish to work through. So I’ve been really proud of myself for putting a stop to my Julep subscription and really using what I have. However, when I saw the KL Polish Fall in the City collection, it honestly sort of took my breath away! After looking at the shades, I realized I really had nothing like any of the colors in my collection, so it was worth it to me to buy the whole dang thing.
You can buy the collection for $49.95, which is what I did, or, you can buy polishes individuals for $9.50 each.
For those of you who don’t know, KL Polish was created by YouTuber, Kathleen Lights. I think this was such a smart company to start, as many beauty YouTubers start makeup lines, so this is fairly unique, in my opinion. (Don’t play a drinking game for how many times I say unique in this post. You’ll black out, and I can’t be held responsible for that.)
When I first got my package, each polish was individually wrapped in tissue paper, and all of them were housed in a protective bubble envelope. They all felt very securely wrapped. I think she used to have a bigger gift-y type box for those who bought the entire collection, but she mentioned she decided to forgo that since it essentially ends up in the trash, and she wanted to produce less waste. Hence, the tissue wrapping. This is totally fine for me, as I didn’t need a bulky box since I wouldn’t store my polishes in it anyway.
What I like most about the KL polishes (besides the unique colors, of course) is that they have a fatter brush, so you only need to swipe once over your nail for total coverage. However, some people don’t love those fatter brushes, so I thought it was something to mention. With a base coat and a top coat, I found these polishes lasted about a week, which is what I expect from normal, non-gel polishes.
It’s so hard to pick my favorite, but I think Medusa is up there. It’s just such a unique duochrome shade that looks beautiful in any light. But I also just love 1435 and Jane. Both are takes on colors that are fairly normal in the nail polish world, but with a twist. They just feel new and cool, which I enjoy. Yzma was the color I was least excited about because I did think I had some similar colors in my collection but when I actually got it, I realized that it too was quite unique. It’s really almost a black, but in the light, you can tell there is some purple to it. As someone who likes black polish, this pleases me.
Medusa ($9.50): Green with a gold flip
1435 ($9.50): Muted navy
Peanut Butter ($9.50): Warm deep yellow with brown undertones
Yzma ($9.50): A deep metallic purple with black undertones
Cafe Disco ($9.50): Taupe with silver micro glitter
Jane ($9.50): Muted magenta
I have worn all of these over the past several weeks, but I don’t think I took consistent pictures of any of them, so I painted one of my hands with 5 colors and the other with Medusa, since it’s so cool. They honestly aren’t the best swatches I’ve ever done, but here we are. I will say that Yzma and 1435 were great with one swipe, but I would put two coats of the others to get full opacity. I only put on one swipe of Jane and I noticed in my swatch pictures that it did look a bit patchy, so I should have put two coats on that one.
I am really pleased with KL Polish and will definitely buy more polish from them in the future. There are some individual shades I have my eye on that I will pick up the next time I place an order. If you like any of the shades, I think you would be really happy if you made a purchase! Let me know if you think you’re going to get anything from KL Polish!
