After we started this blog, my friend Amy reached out to me and let me know she had a few sub boxes that she never opened. I don’t understand the restraint she showed by not opening them but her loss was Boxy Ladies’ gain, as she passed along those boxes to me for review! She also sent me this amazingly thoughtful typewriter print as a wedding present. Amy and I became fast BFF’s in middle school and have kept in touch ever since. I miss her since we live far away but social media helps us keep in touch!

Onto the April 2013 Birchbox that Amy sent! Birchbox is sort of The Queen of subscription boxes as it was one of the first. For $10/month you get a pretty box of fun makeup and skincare samples that are tailored to you by a quiz you take when you sign up. It was my only box for years and I quit getting it a few years ago. However, since starting this blog, I felt obligated to review it for my lovely readers.

Each month typically has a theme and this particular theme (back in 2013!) was “Tiny Tweaks, Big Results.” It was sponsored by Women’s Health and there was a card for a free year of Women’s Health. I didn’t see an expiration date on it so I went ahead and sent it in. Why not.

The big ticket item in the box was the Mirenesse Glossy Kiss Lipstick. This was a full sized lipstick but unfortunately time hasn’t been kind to it and it mostly melted in the box which is a bummer bc it was a pretty red color. But no damage is a lot to ask for an almost two year old Birchbox so I’m not sad. It retails for $26.55.

They also included several Oribe shampoo and conditioner samples. I’m glad I received this sample now, as I truly appreciate Oribe these days. It’s pricy and I have yet to buy a full size product but ssssssomeday their texturizing spray will be mine. I’m excited to try their Shampoo and Conditioner for Beautiful Color since I’m a bottle blonde. Full size is $37-39.

I was excited to get the SKIN&Co Roma Cleansing Body Gel with Olive & Sicilian Orange Extract. I’ve run out of my Dove body was and my ThinkSoap bars are running low so I’m sort of going from sample to sample in terms of body wash. This has a nice scent so it will be used pronto. Probably tomorrow. This is a really decent sized sample also! Full size retails for $17.50

Next up is the Supergoop! Advanced SPF 40 Anti-Aging Eye Cream. I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned this but I tend to have the driest eye area ever. This problem only gets worse during the winter months so I’m constantly trying different creams to see if there is one out there that will help my poor, occasionally scaly eye skin. I’ll try anything. This is a tiny sample but full size retails for $45

They also included a “Lifestyle Extra” which was two Kusami Tea Paris tea bags. I don’t drink tea so I might put this in my mom’s stocking. Or maybe someday I will start drinking tea. Time will tell.

If I were to grade this box, I’d give it an A! It was no one’s fault but time that the lipstick had issues and I liked every item in the box. I’m so grateful to Amy for sending me this bonus Birchbox! It was such a fun surprise!
