Whenever I write about my favorite things, I usually have to keep myself focused by sticking to a theme. I have a lot of favorite things, it’s overwhelming. Today is total chaos, a real pit of madness – I have no theme, just a haphazard little list of things I love right now. You’ll have to suffer through the randomness of it all.
Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer – I wasn’t sure what I was buying when I bought my first one. I knew exactly what I was doing when I bought the next 4. This lip…. gloss? Stick? Magical tube of wonderfulness? It’s the perfect lip color for people (like myself) who are terrible at lip color. It is extremely moisturizing, to the point where I don’t need to put lip balm on for the rest of the day (nothing short of a miracle for me). The color goes on strong, no slathering necessary. You want red? You got red in one swipe – and it’s evenly coated too. It stays put, so you don’t need to worry about it smearing or needing to reapply it any time soon. I just love this stuff.
Interstellar – Full discloser: I am a space movie nut. I love sci-fi movies in general, but I LOVE movies that deal with space. My fiance and I sat for a full 30 minutes trying to think of a space movie that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy (besides Prometheus, that movie was garbage), so I may be a little biased, but I loved Interstellar. It had some serious issues with pacing and plot development, and some downright unrealistic things happened in an unrealistic fashion, but it was so damn enjoyable. It’s over 3 hours long and I was sad when it ended. I could have watched another hour. They also did their homework on trying to make it the most realistic scientifically – and in the process discovered what black holes actually look like if you get close enough (HOLY CRAP). It had its flaws for sure, but I can’t stop thinking about this movie, and I want to go see it again.
Serial – If you haven’t listened to Serial yet, you’ve probably been told by half of your friends to give it a try already. If you have listened to it, you already know why I am so in love with it. Created by the makers of This American Life, it’s a weekly podcast that tells one story over the course of the season. This is the first season, and it’s about a murder case involving high school kids in Baltimore, MD (where I happen to live). The story is very detailed, very interesting, and very likely to head in a direction that may change the lives of many people. The investigation wasn’t perfect. The details didn’t line up. A man has been in prison since high school for a crime he may not have committed – or he may have and is a total sociopath. It is super interesting and the first thing I do when I wake up on Thursday mornings is download the next episode. If you like brilliant storytelling and mysteries, this is a podcast you should subscribe to (and it’s free).
Le Couvent Des Minimes Gardener’s Hand Healer – I’m not usually in the habit of recommending you all spend $20 on a single tube of hand cream, but this stuff is legit. Le Couvent Des Minimes puts out some amazing lotions and creams, and they are all worth every penny, but the best one by far is the Gardener’s Hand Healer. Now that the weather is getting colder and everyone is turning their heaters on, my skin is drying out. A little bit of this makes my hands so soft, and the softness lasts all day. I also use a little on my feet and it keeps those puppies soft as well. As a bonus, the smell is lovely. To give you an idea of how much I love it, it was the first item I put on my Christmas list (yes, I’m 32 with a Christmas list, I am hard to shop for).
(By the way, if you buy any of this stuff online, USE EBATES!!! It’s free money back on purchases that you’re already making, why are you not using Ebates yet?)
Toodles,
Jill
Haven’t seen Interstellar, but I’ll tell you upfront that I’m the opposite of you–space movies terrify me!
