Hamptons Lane is great. They are basically my ideal subscription box – they deliver a jam-packed box full of food and kitchen items, are reasonably priced for the value, and best of all you can preview the box and decide ahead of time if you want to buy that one. More boxes should offer that preview, it would reduce the number of bad reviews I have to write.boxes_americanbreakfast_1

This month’s theme was one of my favorite things – breakfast! It doesn’t get much more breakfasty than pancakes and eggs with coffee, and that’s what this month’s box brings us.

lodge-65-cast-iron-skillet6.5″ Cast Iron Skillet by Lodge – $20.00 – First up is by far the coolest item in the box. I love it when I receive totally useful, practical items that I never buy myself. Food is great, but a cast iron skillet will literally last forever. It’s also something that every kitchen should have. Recently I’ve been using a regular 6″ skillet every morning to make eggs for breakfast, and it’s so handy because of its size. A cast iron skillet is even more convenient, if not more awesome because cast iron elevates things a bit.

southern-culture-artisan-foods-bourbon-salted-pecan-pancake-waffle-mixBourbon Salted Pecan Pancake & Waffle Mix by Southern Culture Artisan Foods – $8.00 – OMG YES PLEASE. The name alone makes me hungry. According to the Hamptons Lane site, Oprah herself recommends this mix, as if it needed such an endorsement when it is freaking bourbon salted pecan pancake mix. I don’t need to explain why this sounds delicious. I have been in the market for a waffle maker for a while, and this just sealed my fate. I need to make this batter into waffles.

crown-maple-syrup-custom-maple-syrup-trio

Crown Maple Syrup Trio – $20.00 – Well, well, well. Some syrup to go on my bourbon salted pecan waffles. This trio includes two dark amber and one medium amber syrups, all certified organic. According to Hamptons Lane, this syrup was also served at the Presidential Inaugural Lunch, which is pretty cool? I have no idea what sort of foods the president enjoys, but if it’s good enough for the White House, I suppose it is good enough for me. I will hold off on trying these until I get my waffles.

muirhead-pumpkin-pecan-butterMuirhead Pecan Pumpkin Butter – $12.00 – While I prefer syrup on my waffles, pecan pumpkin butter does sound like it would go deliciously with bourbon salted pecan mix (can you tell what my favorite item is this month?). If nothing else, this would be tasty on toast.

tovolo-perfect-poach-egg-poaching-papersTovolo Perfect Poach Egg Poaching Papers – $6.00 – I have never once successfully poached an egg. It’s not one of those intuitive cooking things, that shit is hard. It takes practice, but frankly if I suck at something I don’t spend too much time repeating how much I suck at it. Maybe these egg poaching papers can help me out and magically somehow make me capable of poaching a damn egg.

mistobox-10-coffee-credit

MistoBox $10 Coffee Credit – $10.00 – The last item in this box is a coupon for $10 off a subscription to a monthly coffee box, which is one box I really don’t need in my life. I really like coffee, but I have to limit myself to how much I drink. I can’t even imagine how intolerable I would be if I had a monthly supply of it delivered to my door. My fiance might lose his mind, poor thing.

I’m rating this box a good old fashioned A. The total retail value of this box is $76 and the cost of a monthly subscription is $47. I love how focused the themes are, each box really follows the theme. That tells me that this box was put together with some love. There are many boxes that leave me assuming they only stuck things in them because they were able to get a good cheap deal on them (ahem, FabFitFun). They also include really good quality products, which is great for re-gifting or just for getting to try things you never would have otherwise. Another great box, looking forward to December!
