It’s Taste Trunk time again! This box arrived a little later than usual, and I was getting worried maybe they forgot to send it to me. My fears were eased when it showed up a few days ago, and I even got a surprise – I had totally forgotten that I switched from my normal Gourmet Trunk to the Sweet Trunk this month!

If you’re not familiar with Taste Trunk, it’s a monthly box for people who like awesome food. You get to choose between the Gourmet Trunk, the BBQ Trunk, and the Sweet Trunk – each are $35/month. So far Brian and I have both been super happy with the Gourmet Box, we got to try the Sweet Trunk this month and I am so glad we did. Whichever box you choose, it’ll be packed with high-end tasty treats.

Sweet Trunk FTW.

I like this box so much I may get the Sweet Trunk again next month. I know, I live on the edge. I briefly wondered if it would be packed with candy, of which I am not a huge fan, but instead they sent full sized packages of some of my favorite desserts! Boom.

Oh. My. God.

Mariposa Gluten-Free Penguinos 4-pack – $8.95: There was about a 2 minute window between the moment I opened the box and the moment I finished the first of these cupcakes. I immediately took a photo and tore into these. First of all, I couldn’t care less if something has gluten in it. I’ve had gluten-free cupcakes before and they have been merely meh – light on flavor, dense, totally unremarkable. Mariposa has changed my mind about the potential of gluten-free desserts. These look and taste exactly like Little Debbie cupcakes, which I think is what they were going for. They are AWESOME. Bonus, they’re about 220 calories each, which is not amazing for everyday consumption but still great as far as cupcakes go. Based on how these taste, I would not be opposed to trying more of Mariposa’s desserts despite their lack of gluten.

Oh, what’s up Mariposa?

Mariposa Coconut Lemon Square – $3.50: What was I just saying about trying more from Mariposa? Why, thank you for anticipating my needs Taste Trunk. Another gluten-free treat that tastes like it has good old fashioned gluten in it. Yes, I already ate it. Yes, I enjoyed the crap out of it. Yes, I now want even more from Mariposa.

Best. Biscotti. Ever.

Be-Bop Biscotti in English Toffee – $3.50: This is seriously the best biscotti I’ve enjoyed in years. First of all, it’s huge. Second of all, they sent two of them. The biscotti is not light and airy, it’s dense and crispy. Just like biscotti should be (take note, Starbucks). It’s then dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with toffee bits. Surprisingly, it’s not super sweet. I am not a huge fan of gratuitously sugary things, so its mild sweetness is really pleasant to me. I was kind enough to split one of them with Brian (they’re big enough to share for sure), but I will probably not be so kind for the second one. MINE.

Aw yes.

CC Made Pistachio Nut Caramel Corn – $8.00: Normally I’m not a huge fan of caramel corn because of my aforementioned aversion to overly sweetened things, but this totally works for me. The addition of pistachios is genius because it adds a little savory nuttiness to cut the sugar. I am totally into this caramel corn.

Final Grade: A

Over all, I’m rating this box a solid A. Taste Trunk really is amazing, and I have yet to get a box from them that is anything less than awesome. I have loved and discovered so many new items from Taste Trunk that it has become one of my all-time favorite subscription boxes. One thing to note is that everything in the their box is full sized, no samples here.

I’m already looking forward to the January box!

Mangia!
