It’s the best time of the month, Popsugar time! Lauren and I both subscribe to Popsugar and get equally excited about it each month. If you’re not familiar with Popsugar, it’s a monthly box that sends you an awesome mix of beauty and lifestyle products for $39.99. It’s definitely one of our favorite boxes, but we generally have different opinions about the contents each month. For that reason, we will take turns talking about everything inside. Spoiler: we both loved the February box.
This month’s theme was very clearly Valentine’s Day. Between the heart shaped cutting board, a (Cupid’s) arrow necklace, and all the pretty pinks and reds, this box was perfect to open on the most romantic day of the year.
Jill: I love it when Popsugar sends kitchen stuff. I cook a lot, and I am always on the hunt for new stuff to stock my kitchen with. The one thing I have always wanted but never felt like dropping cash on is a cheese board and knife. The heart shaped board is a little weird, but I think it would be cute to lay out some cheese on it for a party. Bamboo cutting boards are ok, but not the most durable. Fortunately, I only have a few parties a year and probably won’t use the board/knife combo outside of those.
Lauren: Like Jill, I never owned a cheese board until now! I am actually very excited about this. I hope to entertain in my new house and this cheeseboard will be very cute! Actually, now that I think about it, I think I have a cheese board at my mother-in-law’s house that she got us for Christmas but is holding for us til we have room for it in the house. This realization is making me excited that I now have 2 cheeseboards! And I think they will look cute together. For the first time, Matt sat with me while I opened this box and he was really excited about it! He loves the cheeseboard and knife also. And now he wants to open this box with me every month. So cute.
Jill: Ever since seeing Tori Spelling wearing an arrow necklace, I have wanted one. It turns out the ones I specifically like are expensive, and I haven’t been able to get one until now. Thanks to Popsugar, I now own the tiniest arrow necklace on the planet. Still, it is an arrow necklace and I love it. It’s got teeny tiny pave detailing that gives it some sparkle, and looks great on its own or paired with other slim necklaces for a layered look.
Lauren: Baublebar is probably the site where I spend the most money. We aren’t talking Tiffany’s here, but they have quality costume jewelry, and really interesting earring trends. I have made their 360 degree studs my signature. I asked Matt to buy me this Circle Script Letter monogrammed necklace with my new initials my wedding present. I love it. What I didn’t realize until last week is that the necklace I received in October came with a free necklace that Matt forgot about. It’s a gold, slightly more delicate version of this— the bar is a little thinner and smaller. I LOVE THIS NECKLACE. And I’m sort of mad at Matt and keeping it from me for months. I love how delicate it looks. And this little arrow necklace we got this month layers with it PERFECTLY. I am wearing them both right now. I’m going to wear them both with these earrings tomorrow.
Jill: No joke, I had this exact blush in my Sephora.com cart when I discovered the spoilers for the February box. So rarely does a box read my mind the way Popsugar did this month. Since I was about to drop $26 on it anyway, I would call this box a net gain. It’s a great bright pink, but goes on nice and light. My skin is fair with pink undertones, so I stick to pinks and corals or else I look a little dramatic. I am so stoked they included this!
Lauren: Tarte is one of my very favorite makeup brands and while I’ve gotten several of their blushes over the years, I’ve always been very loyal to my NARS Orgasm. However, these days, I am looking to branch out a bit more. My beloved NARS is running out and so I’m going to add this one into my regular rotation and see how it goes.
Jill: I love the design of this tin. I try not to fall for product packaging, but seriously – look at it. It’s adorable and fun and you can just tell that balm tastes good. I haven’t used mine yet, but Popsugar assures that it is extremely moisturizing, which is perfect because it is current 12 degrees outside. TWELVE. Humans are not meant to live in 12 degrees, and neither were my lips.
Lauren: I have been having Lip Issues with a capital L. They are cracking and peeling like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. I’ve been trying to treat them with Vaseline and medicated Chapstick so hopefully that will help. This balm feels very nice on my poor, broken lips. There is the SLIGHTEST pink tint but nothing crazy. This is going to go in my desk at work so I can help my lips during the day. Poor lips.
Jill: One of the most relaxing things ever is to sink into a piping hot tub of bubbles with some candles and a good book. When my fiance and I bought our house, we couldn’t believe how absolutely perfect it was for us. About a month into living there, I stopped dead in my tracks and my blood ran cold when I realized that there is not a bath tub in it for me to take a proper bath in. I am SO SAD that I can’t use this bubble bath. Maybe I’ll sneak into my sister’s house and take a bath when she’s at work.
Lauren: Unlike Jill, I have a wonderfully big, jetted bathtub– in the house I do not live in yet. I cannot wait til I can settle in for a relaxing bubble bath with this wonderfully rose scented US Apothecary Rose Water Bubble Bath. I imagine that this is a product that Lisa Vanderpump uses every day. There is no doubt that woman smells like roses 24/7.
Jill: I have way too much nail polish, but I totally welcome more. I don’t think I’ve ever used Sally Beauty polish, so this will be a new experience. It is supposedly one-coat, so we’ll see. I have some strong opinions on polish that claims to be one-coat. I do love red (I currently have bright red on my nails right now in fact), so trust that it will be used.
Lauren: I received this polish in a light pink, so I think there is some variance with colors in the Sally Beauty polish. I’m not a light pink nail polish kind of girl, but maybe I could experiment with nail art and layer something else on it. I’m definitely interested in trying out the formula since they say it’s one-coat. We’ll see!
Jill: As far as chocolate bars go, the fancier the better. Objectively. High quality chocolate is just so much better than the crappy stuff. I would destroy a Mast Brothers bar in minutes and not bother looking at the tasting notes. That said, when a chocolate bar is loaded with delicious things like salted, caramelized almonds, I don’t care if it’s made from the rarest cacao bean in existence harvested by pygmy goats or if it’s from Hershey’s. It’s going to be delicious. I have a feeling Chuao Chocolatier is above the Hershey’s level based on the fact that they are pretentious enough to call themselves a chocolatier.
Lauren: I’m not always super excited about the food items that POPSUGAR sends us. However, this one sounds pretty damn amazing. Sometimes they send us stuff with weird ingredients I’m not all that interested in eating but this one has marshmallows and salted caramelized almonds. I love all these things. I am going to eat this… right now.
Final Grade:
Jill: A
Lauren: A
Jill: I am going to rate this box a solid A! I love everything in it, even the sad bottle of bubble bath I can’t use. The retail value of this box is a staggering $139.50, and I paid $39.99. In terms of value, that is the holy grail of subscription box wins.
Lauren: This is a box Jill and I agree on. I’m also rating it an A. I’m totally psyched about the cheeseboard, my new necklace, the blush and the bubble bath. Basically, I am excited about everything. I’m counting down the minutes til I can get into my house and take a bath. It’s going to be amazing.
