Ahhhh, Allure Sample Society. This is one of my very favorite boxes that I receive. I feel like Birchbox and Ipsy can sometimes be hit or miss but for $15/mo, Allure Sample Society delivers high end deluxe samples from brands you’ve actually heard of before. I’m obviously a big fan.
I got this box weeks ago but I’ve been having so much fun playing with all the products that I almost forgot that I have a blog to tell y’all about all of the products. So pardon my lateness on that. But during my tardiness, I received an update from Allure Sample Society which I will share with you here:
Sample Society will be coming to an end with the June box. But not to fear! You can still discover the best beauty samples with Allure Beauty Box, a new monthly sampling service that will be managed exclusively by Allure.
Want to receive the new Allure Beauty Box? Perfect! You don’t need to take any action. As a loyal Sample Society subscriber, we’ll take care of all the details for you – no need to update your account or credit card info at this time.
If you’d prefer not to receive Allure Beauty Box, please log on to your account and click ‘Cancel Membership’ or give us a call at 1-888-696-0423. We ask that you cancel by June 15 th.
After July, you can still cancel whenever you want; however, please direct all questions and comments about your subscription to Allure (BeautyBox@allure.com or 1-800-274-1603). Plus, starting on June 15 th, be sure to check the official Allure Beauty Box page for updates on your monthly box.
Please note that the $10 monthly gift code will not be offered through Allure Beauty Box. Your June code will be valid through July 5 th.
So that is interesting. I had actually finally convinced Jill she needed to sign up for Allure Sample Society and when she went to the site, she couldn’t because they weren’t accepting new subscriptions and it now makes sense because of this transition. Maybe on the 15th she can go to the official Allure Beauty Box page and sign up?
I’m interested to see what the new Allure Beauty Box is going to look like in comparison to Allure Sample Society. Obviously, I will keep you posted on that. And in a much more timely manner than this particular blog. I really hope they have a much better referral system than Allure Sample Society because I’m always telling people to sign up for it with my code but no one (including myself) can figure out how.
But let’s check out what I received for May…
Allure Sample Society always sends an Allure Mini Mag which highlights the different products and how to use them in a more detailed way than other subscription box cards. It’s like reading a little Allure magazine and I love that since Allure is one of my very favorites. In this digital world, I still subscribe to real magazines. I love how they smell. Here’s what they included:
- John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment
- Julep Lip Gloss in Graceful
- Versace Eros Pour Femme
- Eau Thermale Avène Thermal Spring Water
- Laneige Water Sleeping Mask
- Alterna Caviar Repair Multi-Vitamin Heat Protection Spray
I have to admit I’m confused about this John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment. Here’s the deal… you are supposed to apply this gel in the shower to washed and conditioned hair and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then you are supposed to rinse it out and style as normal and this is supposed to create fullness that lasts through 3-5 shampoos. I don’t understand how this works. I also have to admit that I don’t believe it did anything to my hair. I’m DYING for more volume in my hair, all the time. It’s all I want. But this stuff… just made my hair feel weird but not in a volume-y way. Just in a plastic-y way. It sounds like a dream to get voluminous hair in the shower and I think that’s all it is– a dream. My quest for volume continues.
While I’m always on the look for volume, I’m equally on the lookout for blow-dry sprays like Alterna Caviar Repair Multi-Vitamin Heat Protection Spray. This stuff is legit… it makes my hair feel silky but not too weighed down. I’m into this for sure. The mini-mag said this has a really strong scent but it never bothered me at all.
I first discovered this Laneige Water Sleeping Mask in a Target Beauty Box but I never really tried it back then. I’ve been using it very regularly in the past few weeks because it gives my skin so much moisture! It almost has a jelly texture that I enjoy putting on my face after whichever serum I happen to be using. It feels cool but not greasy and absorbs pretty quickly. This sleeping mask is meant to draw in and keep in moisture while you are sleeping so you can look extra luminous by morning. I’m into that.
I loved the description in the mini mag of the Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water under How it Looks/Feels/Smells:
Not familiar with water? It feels wet, it smells like nothing and it’s clear.
Haha. But seriously, it’s water. But it’s in a really fine spray so it won’t drench you. Apparently these type of thermal sprays have been popular in Europe because it helps to soothe sensitive skin and calm inflammation. Some people even keep it in the fridge for an instant shot of relief from tight, itchy situations. However after the spray, you should be sure to moisturize quickly to lock in the moisture from the water.
I keep going back to this Versace Eros Pour Femme deluxe perfume sample. There’s something so fresh about it– maybe it’s the notes of Sicilian lemon, bergamot, pomegranate, jasmine, peony, sandlewood, amber and musk. It’s not quite fruity, it’s not quite floral. It’s kind of mysterious… but mostly just pretty.
I love this Julep Lip Gloss. I obviously have a subscription to Julep’s Maven program so I’ve gotten several of their Lip Glosses over the years so I already knew I liked the formula but I didn’t have this color (Graceful.) This sample is hilariously tiny– the applicator is way bigger than the amount of gloss they gave but it’s a nice size for putting in your pocket.
Final Grade: A
I loved the variety of things I got to try in my Allure Sample Society Box this month! While the John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment didn’t work out, I’m glad I didn’t have to buy the full size to discover that. Surprisingly, I really liked the Versace perfume and I’m normally kind of weird about receiving perfume samples. I’ll always welcome another Julep lip gloss and the Laneige sleeping mask is wonderful.
I’m interested to see what this box will look like as it moves away from being associated with Beauty Bar and is only associated with Allure. I’m hoping the quality and variety of products stays the same because this is one of my favorite boxes! And let’s hope the referral system is better so I can start getting some rewards off of you people. 😉
xo,
Lauren
I paid for this box and all opinions are my own; post contains referral links.
