I originally wrote this blog about the Target Beauty Box a few weeks ago but it was during the Great Blog Debacle. (I came close to destroying the whole blog. Luckily, I did not destroy it but I DID lose our email list so if you used to get emails from us, you’ll need to sign up again. It’s easy to do on the right side of the screen if you’re on a computer or at the bottom of the screen if you’re on mobile.) Suffice to say, I lost my original Target Beauty Box post. However, this time I’ll get Jill’s point of view on the products, so this blog will be better than the original.

The Target Beauty box is actually NOT a subscription box but a quarterly-ish box that Target puts out as a one time purchase. The prices tend to vary based on the boxes but this particular box was $5. I mean, COME ON. TAKE MY MONEY, TARGET. For the price of a Venti Latte, you can get a box of fun beauty products. It’s a no brainer. But because this deal is so great, these boxes sell out FAST. Luckily, I have several friends on High Alert that text me the morning they go on sale so I buy my Target Beauty Boxes in bed at like 6am. (It’s that important.) We’ll try to put out a blast the next time they go on sale so you can get one, too!

I just love opening a box and getting a compliment. Could I love Target any more?

In more detail…

TRESemme TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray
Lauren:
I really like receiving travel-sized hairsprays in boxes. I actually like TRESemme. I always forget that I do but I’m going on a trip soon (um, Jill’s wedding, hello?!) and so it’s important to have great travel products so I don’t have to take 100 suitcases. (As you can imagine, I have a LOT of products. I tend to not travel light.)
Jill: I am planning on cutting my hair immediately after my wedding, and when I go short I style it way more since I’m not tempted to just throw it into a bun. I haven’t had chin-to-shoulder-length hair in about 2 years, so I no longer have all the sprays and serums and products that I would normally have a surplus of when I’m styling my hair more frequently. I am super excited to try this hairspray, and the fact that it’s travel-sized is perfect – I will take this on my honeymoon.

SheaMoisture Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System Shampoo
Lauren:
I’ve been impatiently waiting for more boxes so I can try different shampoos because I’ve been using a boring Dove shampoo so I’ve been hoping for another one. And I’ve had this in the other room for weeks, and I forgot it was there. Duh. (However, cut me some slack. I have like 3 couches in that room, while we are waiting to donate some. The shampoo is not at the top of mind in there.) This smells really nice and I’m excited to try it.
Jill:
John Frieda recently discontinued my all-time favorite line (Full Repair), probably because I blogged about it (everything I gush about on here gets cancelled, it’s the kiss of death). So I’m shopping around for a new repairing shampoo/conditioner combo that is super moisturizing. Trust me, if you want volume you gotta moisturize those locks. I am intrigued by the marula oil and biotin, so we’ll see what happens.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set
Lauren: This is a full-sized product! I have only ever tried one other setting spray and it’s one by Urban Decay. The jury is still out for me as to how much staying power these products really have. Maybe I just don’t wear enough makeup to begin with? I’m not sure. But I do like using these products because they don’t hurt anything either.
Jill: I decided to do my own wedding makeup after a horrible makeup trial, so I have been experimenting with makeup setting sprays to make sure it lasts all day. I’m with Lauren about how effective any of these sprays are, but I’m game to try anything to make sure my makeup doesn’t melt off my face until the after party. So far in the lead is the Urban Decay spray, but I’m trying this next because, well, I have a bottle of it and I might as well.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream
Lauren: This is a product I’ve been really looking forward to trying. Not only because Kristen Bell is hawking Neutrogena now (I’ll buy whatever you sell, K-Bell!) but because I’m really interested in these “gel creams.” I’ve been using a liquid makeup by Bare Minerals that is a gel cream and I really like it. I feel like my skin is improving. This is a light gel but still feels very moisturizing. I’m a fan of this.
Jill: Like Lauren, I will buy anything Kristen Bell tells me to. When I see her hawking a product I go into a somewhat zombie-like trance and hit up Amazon. Unlike Lauren, I am not a fan of gel creams. I wasn’t a fan of the Bare Minerals gel cream, but my skin has been super dry lately and I am game to try something new.

Maybelline Color Elixir by Color Sensational Lip Color
Lauren: This is one of the biggest surprises in the box. So frequently, in these types of boxes, they will put in a throwaway color that never works for me. NOT THIS TIME. They included a full size lip color in Rose Redefined which works so well with my complexion. Like my lips but a little bit pinker. The formula is really creamy and moisturizing but not sticky. I wore it for several hours one night and really liked it. I’ve been wearing this in the mornings on the way to work.
Jill: Lauren got a cool color, I got mauve. No one likes mauve because i’s just shy of flattering for any skin tone. I guess what makes it neutral is that it’s universally ugly on everyone. The formula is pretty awesome though, it slathers on thick and colorful but doesn’t feel sticky or heavy. I would go out and buy a different color of this, and since it’s just a few bucks I can see myself buying a few.

Final Grade:
Lauren: A
Jill: A

We will never rate a box of products costing only $5 that is worth way more than that any less than an A. (Jill is enthusiastically nodding in agreement to this statement.) We love being able to try new products for PRACTICALLY free. Since they included 2 full-sized products that are each worth more than the box, it more than pays for itself.

We will type up an emergency blast the next time the Target Beauty Boxes go on sale so you can all get them for yourselves! But you gotta sign up for email updates to be the first to know! Blah blah, sign up for email, blah blah.

xo,
Lauren & Jill
