Lauren and I both subscribe to Julep Maven, but Lauren skipped this month (yes, that’s a thing you can do!) so I will be reviewing my selections alone this time.
This month’s collection was the Set Sail Collection featuring “new nautical” colors of polish, a new eye shadow line, new eye shadow brushes, and new lip colors. I pay for the customizable box (but pre-pay for 3 months at a time so it’s the same price as the regular pre-selected boxes).
The colors seemed a little…. redundant this month. Still, I chose the bottom right powder blue (Jessica) because I don’t already have a similar color. It looked almost periwinkle on screen, but in person it’s a beautiful sky blue. I am currently wearing it on my nails and I’ve gotten several compliments for it.
I am doing my own makeup for my wedding (which, as of my writing this, is 5 days away HOLY CRAP), so I was intrigued by the eye shadow palettes making their debut this month. My dress is ivory and I’m going for a softer bridal look, so I added this palette to my box:
It appears a little more lush on screen, the coral color is a bit pinker and lighter in person, but the gold is GORGEOUS. It’s sparkly and dense, which just so happens to be what I look for in gold eye shadow.
My final item this month was the new shader brush. They also released a shadow brush, but I have several of those already and was intrigued by the blending capability of this one. I have been really pleased with the quality of Julep’s brushes – they are super soft, dense, and durable. I am very happy I included this in my box, it performs as advertised.
Final Grade: A+
I really love this box. I adore the polish color, it is great for summer. The shadow is a really nice quality, and the brush is a great addition to my makeup case. I chose not to include any add-ons, and I’m kind of kicking myself for not getting that awesome cantaloupe-looking orange. Perhaps it’ll be available next month – can’t wait to see spoilers for the June box!
