I was really looking forward to this month’s Popsugar box. They released a picture of the Kitsch necklace and I immediately started planning outfits around it. Lauren and I both subscribe to Popsugar (and it’s jointly our favorite box), so we’ll be reviewing it together! Lauren’s box originally got lost in the black hole of moving, but Popsugar’s customer service is mega awesome and they sent her a replacement box. If you’re not familiar with Popsugar, it’s a monthly box that sends you an awesome mix of beauty and lifestyle products for $39.99.
This month’s box revolved around glowing skin, flowers, color, and sunshine. I could not be happier with this box and I’m glad Lauren actually got hers!
Kitsch Tri’d & True Y-Shaped Necklace – $32.00:
Jill: LOVE LOVE LOVE this necklace. It’s perfectly dainty and catches the light enough to make a statement without the heaviness of a statement necklace. This will look sexy as hell on the beach, yet it’s pretty enough to wear with a dress and still casual enough to wear layered with other silver pieces. This was the item I was most looking forward to and it managed to exceed my expectations. It’s got a tiny silver triangle at the end of the Y which weighs the chain down enough so that it doesn’t tangle or twist. I can’t stop gushing about how great this piece is!
Lauren: I was really sad when I thought I wasn’t going to be receiving this box because I was looking forward to this necklace SO MUCH. Luckily, Bono does not have to have a benefit concert for my lack of box/necklace so I can continue on planning my outfits around this. I’ve been wearing a lot of Y necklaces like this lately, mostly in gold, But I have a lot of silver jewelry so I wanted something a little different to mix it up. I never thought about wearing it at the beach but that’s a great idea. Good job, Jill.
Sisters of Los Angeles Surf Sand Love Beach Towel – $40.00:
Jill: One of the coolest things about Popsugar is that they are willing to take risks. Occasionally they don’t work out, but often those risks are appreciated. I’ve never had a subscription box dare to send me a full sized beach towel before, but leave it to Popsugar to be the first. This towel is huge, light, and perfect for days when all you need is a rum drink and some sand under your feet. The towel was designed by Popsugar and says “SURF SAND LOVE” which gets me in the mood for some sunshine. It makes a really cool addition to this box.
Lauren: I like getting new beach towels. It gives me an excuse to throw out my old disgusting ones. I feel like I’ve accumulated random towels from random people/places and I don’t know why that is. I’m excited for a new towel to take to the pool this summer.
Middle Kingdom Mini Plum Vase in Coral Red – $20.00:
Jill: This vase is hilariously tiny. It’s about 4-inches tall and I was really confused about who would ever need such a small vase, but then I was looking for something to stick Brian’s wedding boutonniere in and it was perfect. I’ve never had a tiny vase before, but the red is beautiful and gives a nice bright pop to my dining room. It’s also a nice, solid vase that can take my cat and/or dog knocking it over a few times. I’ll keep it.
Lauren: I love this! I am probably going to start some flowers/herbs this year and I really love the idea of having fresh flowers in the house! Even really tiny ones. Now I am getting really distracted thinking about the flowers I want to grow. I don’t think I’m going with roses because that sounds difficult. But maybe marigolds, pansies, irises? If I grow a flower, I will post pictures of it in my bud vase.
Sage & Row Bare Shave Cream – $17.00:
Jill: I would never, ever, ever find myself in a situation where I paid $17 for shaving cream, and that is exactly why I love subscription boxes. It’s like getting luxury gifts all the time. This stuff is legit. My legs have never been smoother, and I used a fairly dull razor (I KNOW). The tube is small enough to be really portable, so this puppy is coming with me on my honeymoon.
Lauren: Like Jill, I am not sure I would ever pay $17 for shaving cream. But… maybe I need to? I like this because it’s not hugely foamy like the shaving creams you get at Target so you can actually see what you are shaving. This is important! And this stuff makes my skin super soft. I’m really in. Subscription boxes are making both my mascara and my shaving cream budgets go way up.
Batiste Dry Shampoo – $4.00:
Jill: If there’s one thing I will never have to buy again it’s dry shampoo. Seriously, subscription boxes LOVE to send dry shampoo to us. With frequency. I’m so glad this was one of the little bonus items this month because I could not handle another full sized super expensive dry shampoo. Let’s be real – it’s spray powder, and they don’t differ that much between brands. Still, this one smells really nice and is also travel-sized, so it’ll find its way to Europe with the shave cream.
Lauren: Unlike Jill, I could totally handle another full sized super expensive dry shampoo. Dry shampoo has been the best thing to ever happen to my hair and I want MORE MORE MOAR. NEED IT. I received this dry shampoo in a different scent in a different box so I already know I love it. I’ll totally use all the dry shampoos every subscription box ever sends me. I have straight, boring hair with no texture and dry shampoo definitely helps.
Hammond’s Candies McCraw Flat Taffy – $1.00:
Jill: This is a gigantic stick of taffy. Bonus, it’s a gigantic stick of all-natural taffy free of anything artificial. The verdict is out on how it tastes, because I’m pretty partial to the hand made saltwater variety, but I’m sure it’s great. It’s taffy, after all. Let’s not complicate this.
Lauren: I always get very bored with the food items POPSUGAR sends me. Mostly because I am not a foodie (that’s all Jill, obviously) and whenever they send me something like taffy, I’m like… couldn’t you send me a lip gloss instead? I don’t hate taffy but I don’t love taffy. I’m quite indifferent to taffy.
Jill’s Final Rating: A+
Lauren’s Final Rating: A+
This box rocked. The total retail value is $114.00, and we paid $39.99. Popsugar is known for their excellent value, and this month was no exception. I’m eagerly waiting for spoilers for the June box (any day now, come on already), because I cannot wait to see what they send next month!
