I love my Birchbox this month. I started my subscription last month after a long hiatus, and I wasn’t convinced that I wanted to keep it because I get SO MANY boxes and it has some stiff competition. It turns out Birchbox has gotten pretty damn awesome since I tried them over a year ago. I guess that’s what happens when you become one of the biggest subscription boxes available! Good for them.
A little background, Birchbox is a monthly box that sends you an assortment of deluxe samples for a mere $10. They also have a great system for earning points – review items and earn cash money towards full sized products in their store! It’s pretty hard not to love that.
This month was the Adventure box and it was my favorite one yet. Lauren and I both subscribe to Birchbox, but since there is generally little overlap in the products they send, we’ll review our goodies separately. My very thoughtful mailman left my box outside in the midst of a crazy rainstorm, but fortunately nothing but the box itself was damaged.
Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Eyeshadow Quad – The picture above does not give these colors justice. I cannot express how shimmery and beautiful they are in person. The lower right purple shade was so gorgeous that I immediately swiped my finger into it because of how richly glittery it was – I couldn’t keep my hands off of it. I had to demonstrate some insane self control to not try on each color before snapping a photo.
Vasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator – I’ve actually tried this one before and loved it. It’s a fine course face scrub that leaves your skin positively glowing. I’ve used my share of exfoliating scrubs, but this one is my second favorite of all time (second only to Josie Maran’s exfoliation powder that I think is one of the most perfect scrubs ever created). I love that this sample is large enough to get quite a few uses from.
Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner – I’m going to level with you. It’s a great formula – it’s similar to Julep’s Eye Glider line, which is easily one of the smoothest pencils you can use. But let’s be real, I am never going to use a bright blue liner. I’m 32 and not getting any cooler. I can’t pull off bright blue eyeliner unless I’m going to an 80s night, and frankly that sounds exhausting. The last thing I’ll say is that the biggest issue I have is a personal problem – waterproof eyeliner and lash extensions do not blend, no matter how great your makeup remover is (and honestly the better the makeup remover, the worse it is for your falsies). I’m giving this one away.
Emi Jay Hair Tie – Now this is one thing that I absolutely love. It’s summer in Baltimore, and that means we’re nearing 100 degrees and 95% humidity every day (and it’s only June, folks). Point is, I need to be able to throw my hair up when I’m outside so that I don’t start sweating like a sumo wrestler, take it down again when I’m in an over-air conditioned building, and it would be dandy if I didn’t crease my strands to hell. These elastics are really perfect for me during the summer.
Dr. Jart+ BB Night Beauty Balm – This is one of the great things about Birchbox. I get to try new products from brands I already love! I wear Dr. Jart+ BB every day (well, every day that I leave the house), and I absolutely love it. I don’t have a problem washing it off at night, but this night BB is apparently fine to sleep in as well! This formula comes out clear with some beads in it, but automatically adjusts the color after you smooth it on.
Supergoop! Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream SPF 37 – They went and combined three things that I love: anti-aging, eye cream, and SPF. This cream is meant to sooth puffy eyes, reduce dark circles and smooth out fine lines. Can’t wait to give this a shot.
Final Rating: A
This box was right on the mark for me. I loved everything in it (and the blue eyeliner is totally giftable), and I may have found some new favorite beauty items. I am loving the direction Birchbox is headed, and I am looking forward to the next one!
