Last month was my first month trying RawSpiceBar (you can read about my experience here – spoiler, it was great), and I was overjoyed when I got the July pack sent to me this month as well! Last month had a Jamaican theme, which I loved, and this month is somehow even more drool-inducing – Memphis BBQ spices.
For $6/month, RawSpiceBar sends you 3-4 expertly blended spice packs. Trust me when I say that you won’t have these spices already in your kitchen, each blend is unique and enticing. Each spice pack is large enough to last a while, which is good because they include recipe ideas for each one they send. Pretty awesome stuff. Brian occasionally mentions how much he loves their concept and it’s certainly becoming one of his favorite subscriptions.
I can’t even tell you how excited I am to try this month’s spices. As usual, they are incredibly fresh and they smell amazing. I managed to exhibit just enough self control to photograph the packs prior to tearing them open and sticking my nose inside this time. You’re welcome.
Memphis Dry Rib Rub – Now, if they didn’t include a dry rub in a Mephis BBQ box, I’d cast a little side eye, so I was not surprised to see this blend in here. What I was surprised by was the ingredients – this is a really standard combination with the addition of a few non-standard flavors that I can totally see working well together. A blend of paprika, black peppercorns, garlic, thyme, oregano, onion, mustard seed, celery seed, celery salt, cumin, and cayenne – YUMMMMM. We recently bought an Anova circulator and have been cooking everything sous vide that we can; we’ve been tossing around the idea of cooking ribs sous vide instead of on our Big Green Egg. This spice pack has me dying to experiment!
Applewood Smoked Salt – THIS IS SO AWESOME. Smoked salt is delicious, and I am so excited to use this! The recipe they included with this pack is bacon potato salad, which sounds freaking delicious. I can think of about 100 ways I want to use this smoked salt, so it’s going to be hard to decide how to parse it!
Triple Ice Cream Spices – Ice cream spices?? What the what! This is super cool. I love that they included these. The spices are a blend of cinnamon, green cardamom, and star anise and it smells heavenly. The recipe they included was for ice cream and much to my surprise, it’s not that difficult. I assumed it’d be rather difficult to make ice cream without an ice cream maker, but this recipe proves me wrong. I’m definitely going to whip up a batch of this ASAP.
Final Rating: A+
This is my second time receiving RawSpiceBar and I’m even more convinced of their awesomeness. The spice blends are so interesting, fresh, and delicious and the fact that they send 3-4 each month for a measly $6 is just blowing my mind. Both my husband and I are falling madly in love with this subscription!
Bon appetit!
