Confession time: I think my favorite box is the Allure Beauty Box. If you remember, last month I told you all about how Allure Beauty Box was formerly known as Allure Sample Society. Now I feel like the Beauty Box is coming into it’s own and it’s back to being my favorite. I think I can tell a box is my favorite when I immediately rip it open and start using all of the products.
Just to recap, Allure Beauty Box sends deluxe and the occasional full-size beauty products from high end and reputable brands for just $15/month.
Let’s see what we got this month…
Allure Beauty Box always wins the card insert game with their Mini-Mag they include that breaks down all of the products inside the box and how to use each of them. Allure has always been my favorite magazine of all time so this is like getting a bonus magazine. I just love it.
I was so excited to try ALL of the products this month!
Allure & Butter London in Violet’s Revenge ($15): And by excited to try the products, I mean that I could not get this on my fingernails fast enough. Allure is not dumb– they created an awesome collaboration with Butter London and smartly added a few of the colors to their Beauty Boxes. And I am glad they did! I love the color so much! It’s sort of a mix of cobalt with just a touch of purple. I think it looks really edgy and totally the cool-girl color that you want to wear. I also like the name of it, “Violet’s Revenge” because my BFF Melissa just had a baby girl and named her Violet. It’s possible she will have to pick this up.
Nuance Salma Hayek AM/PM Anti-Aging Super Cream ($19.99 exclusively at CVS): Sometimes when you hear that another celebrity has another random skincare/beauty line, you can’t help but roll your eyes. (But apparently Britney Spears is rolling in money thanks to her music AND her perfume line, so I’m sure she’s laughing all the way to the bank.) Eye rolling aside, I have actually been hearing good things about Salma Hayek’s line so I was excited to try a little bit of it. The Mini-Mag says it’s a medium-weight moisturizer but I thought it was more on the heavier side. While it says it’s for AM/PM, I think it would be better for nighttime. The Mini-Mag did point out that while the moisturizer is marketed as an anti-aging product, it does not contain any retinoids or peptides. However, dryness is a major cause of aging so it’s antioxidant mix is a big plus. I thought it felt very nice on the skin and if you have dry skin, you should definitely look into this.
Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner ($24): This is one of those big time hyped products that I have not had a chance to try for myself yet so I was thrilled to get this in my Allure Beauty Box. However… I actually was NOT a fan of this. At all. I will give the caveat that the sample is likely very different than the real deal or even their deluxe sample size but I could NOT figure out how to apply it and made a HOT MESS on my face. And the problem (and a positive when you are able to use this correctly) is that the formula will NOT budge once you apply it. I felt like I had to SCRUB to get it off and I hate scrubbing the delicate eye area. 🙁 Have y’all figured out how to use this product? Should I try the full size version? Help!
Bumble and Bumble BB Grooming Creme ($30): I really loved this product. I’ve been looking for a product that I can just put in and rough dry and it magically just makes my hair slightly less frizzy but also doesn’t leave it too straight to the point of being oily and the bb grooming creme pretty much fits the bill. I haven’t had a chance to play with it too much yet… haven’t done a TON of styling with it but I loved how it made my simple, every day routine a bit better.
Malin+Goetz Peppermint Shampoo ($36): The Mini-Mag says that this shampoo is one that men love– not only the scent but they tend to steal this product for themselves and I can see why! The peppermint scent is so lovely and helps wake me up in the morning! The Mini-Mag also talked about how much it lathered and lathered but I didn’t notice anything overly-latherly (is that a word? It is now.) about it. I like my shampoos to lather a lot so that is a plus for me. Also Matt really liked it. For himself.
Eau Thermale Avene Cleanance Gel Cleanser ($20): I have used this facial cleanser a few times since getting it and I really like it. Typically gel cleansers can be a bit drying but this one actually isn’t. This Gel Cleanser is aimed for oily and acne-prone skin but it actually does not contain the typical harsh ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Instead, it has a new ingredient called monolaurin that has been proven to decrease oil production over time with regular use. Interesting! While my skin is typically dry, I found it to be really refreshing on these ridiculously hot Texas days.
Final Grade: A+
I was so excited about ALL OF THE PRODUCTS this month. I LOVED the Allure & Butter London collaboration, the Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme and the Malin & Goetz shampoo. While I actually did not love the Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner, I did love that I had a chance to FINALLY try it.
