New Subscription Box Alert! I always dreamed that Sephora would make a subscription box and then lo and behold! My dreams have come true! #ThanksSephora I really appreciate when a company goes ahead and makes my dreams come true, you know?
Anyway, that brings us to PLAY! by SEPHORA! PLAY by Sephora is a subscription box program. Each month we deliver six coveted products, a PLAY! BOOK of tips and tricks, and a PLAY! PASS for in-store learning — all to your doorstep for just $10/month! Right now, I think they are sending boxes to a limited amount of subscribers, but you can click here to join the waitlist. (It’s worth it.)
Some of the benefits of joining PLAY! by Sephora:
- The awesome products, of course
- The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
- Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!
- The PLAY! BOOK rivals the Allure Beauty Box Mini Mag. It’s that good.
But don’t take my word for it… see for yourself!
I took a few more pictures than usual because I want everyone to experience this new box the way I did! I love the lipstick box! I might be super meta and keep some lipsticks in it. While I play with lipsticks. Heyo!
Check out that booklet! The coloring of it reminds me of Blondie’s Parallel Lines album. (One of my favorites!)
And this is the first unveiling of all of the products they included in their first box!
They also included a 17 page PLAY! Book which included information about the products, helpful tips and also fun facts. (And example of a fun fact: “The name Bumble and bumble has no link to our honey-making pals– founder Michael Gordon was looking for an English sounding name with a quirky twist.” #TheMoreYouKnow)
This booklet was seriously quite detailed. You can also scan the products themselves on each page with the Sephora app which will take you directly to the product page, YouTube videos or other fun product info. Technology is neat.
Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation ($40/full-size)
This wasn’t my first time using the Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation face crème… In fact, I am a huge fan of Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum (which I bought in my last big Sephora haul.) However, I always thought Sheer Transformation cream was a bit too light for my needs. My skin tends to be on the dryer side so I need something a little richer but I am willing to try it again.
Bumble and bumble Bb Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer
This was also not my first time receiving the Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer. I believe I got it in an Allure Beauty Box. This kind of product isn’t great for me to use every day because I have very straight, fine hair. When I scanned this products with the app, a video popped up and said that this product was best for people with course, dry hair. Well– that obviously ain’t me. However, I like using this kind of product on my hair on weekends or those other rare occasions where I just let my hair air dry. I tend to use more conditioning type products when I’m not trying to make my hair as big as possible.
GLAMGLOW SUPERCLEANSE ($39/full-size):
I’ve never purchased a full-size GLAMGLOW product but I’ve been happy to try different versions in subscription boxes lately. I’m most excited about this version because it contains bamboo charcoal which has been used for centuries in Chine for its absorption properties. (Fun Fact!) This might be able to help my currently troubled skin.
Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion in Peony ($14/full-size)
I was REALLY pleasantly surprised by this lip stain. In fact, it might be my favorite product in the box! When I first saw this, you can kind of see the end cap, it looked like a pink that was not going to be flattering on me at all. But it turns out it’s kind of a darker rose type shade that looks INCREDIBLE on me. (You know, when I’m being modest.) I was also really psyched to try this formula because I’ve seen it at Sephora forever and I’ve always wanted to try it. I didn’t notice that it stayed on SUPER well during dinner but I don’t mind reapplying. Peony is a great work-friendly color. (Swatch below)
Marc Jacobs Highliner ($25/full-size):
I have tried the Marc Jacobs “highliners” before. They are a gel formula with the convenience of a pencil shape. And these babies do NOT budge. One of the Sephora tips was that you could use this as eyeshadow by smudging it out but I really don’t think you really can… or should. This is great for eyeliner but I think if you tried putting it all over your lid, it might be difficult to remove later. And I don’t think it would really smudge that much to begin with. But it will be great at giving you a dark line that will stay all day. And that’s basically what we are all looking for! Swatches of Marc Jacobs Highliner and Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion Lip Stain in Peony.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana White ($25-80/full-size):
I believe they included the perfume sample as an extra and not as one of the deluxe samples, which is nice. Perfumes are so subjective. Once again, I’ve smelled this before (I have spent a lot of time in Sephoras) but I like it. Maybe not enough to buy it but enough to wear around for a bit and maybe wear out or to work. This is making me want to try the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black because I can’t remember what it smells like. The White version is described as: “Delicate peony, muguet, and musk wrap an alluring sophistication around a soft blend.” Sure.
Final Grade: A+
This was an incredible first box for PLAY! by Sephora. Though I feel like I have tried a lot of the products in this box, I love that they are all high end products. I feel like Sephora took their time getting into the subscription box game because they knew that when they joined, they wouldn’t just be there to PLAY– but to WIN. And I think if they continue in this manner, they are going to succeed every month!
They have released a spoiler about next month’s box and it’s going to be all about Secrets to Dewy Skin. I’m in!

Lauren
