If you follow our blog you are probably already aware that I absolutely love K-beauty (seriously, Korea is killing it in the beauty world), and a lot of the emerging brands are taking a more whimsical approach to designing their products. From cute packaging to a totally new take on a traditional product, some companies are really having fun with it.
We’ve all been there though – something looks so cute that we HAVE to try it, only to find that the packaging was the best part. While I hesitate to drop serious cash on products that seem more adorable than useful, lately I’ve been more experimental and have been pleasantly surprised by how solid a lot of them have turned out! Who says you can’t have both form AND function? I present to you, my list of mega-fun products that are just as awesome as the packaging!
Egg Mousse Soap by Too Cool for School ($20) – I had been eyeing this cleanser for a while prior to taking the plunge, and it really kickstarted my need for cuter and cuter products. It contains egg white to purify, brighten, and tighten, plus egg yolk to moisturize. Trust me, your skin will be left soft and glowing (an amazing feat for skin as dry as mine), but let’s be real. You’re not buying it for that. You’re buying it to see what happens when you put egg all over your face. The soap has the texture of meringue and it is seriously fun to smear it all over. It takes a surprisingly small amount to thoroughly cleanse, so the can will last for a while.
Egg Mousse Body Oil by Too Cool for School ($25) – The Egg Mousse Soap was so fun that I had to know what it was like to smear egg all over the rest of me. Surprising no one, it was awesome. Plus it smells INCREDIBLE. This is a light body oil that would be perfect as a post-shower summer moisturizer (unless your skin isn’t Sahara-dry like mine during the winter), but seriously guys – it smells amazing. So good that I’ve been using it daily just so I can smell it for hours. Again, it foams like a light meringue and smoothes into a soft oil.
Water Girls Ice Cream by Shara Shara ($20) – I have been slow getting on the gel cream train because I have Sahara-level dry skin and no matter what gel cream I tried, I’d have dry patches moments after using it. Not the case with this one. Even a small amount thoroughly moisturizes, leaving my skin soft and smooth with a dewy glow all day long. The best part though? It’s fun as hell to use. The texture is like pudding. It’s called ice cream – I will literally never turn down ice cream in any capacity. I actually like it so much that I look forward to washing my face so I can slather it on after.
Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask by Elizavecca ($14) – You may have seen this mask making the rounds on beauty forums and social media because of how fun it is. I grabbed one while Memebox had it on sale, and I am so glad I did! It’s a charcoal-based mask, so it has pore-clearing, skin-smoothing properties, but it’s so much more fun than that. It bubbles like it’s carbonated, which is more entertaining than itchy. I seriously can’t stop laughing when I use it, which is probably horrifying to my husband given what it looks like when it’s applied. Note: Evidently, this product is often a knock-off sold as the real deal, so be sure to get it from a reputable site like memebox.com!
Oops My Lip Tint by Berrisom ($15) – I rarely recommend a lip product because I usually don’t wear them. Lipstick rubs off over time and requires so much upkeep during the day. Lip tints are often so drying and look weird after a few hours. Gloss is ok, but I have to touch it up so frequently that it’s not worth the effort. This stuff is totally different – it’s a non-drying liquid gel that stains your lips. Slather it on, peel it off and enjoy perfectly tinted lips for many hours (seriously). It comes in 6 different shades so you’d bound to find one you like. There are a few caveats: 1. you MUST exfoliate your lips prior to using it; 2. you have to be pretty good about keeping it only on your lips or you’re going to look like you smeared a popsicle all over your face; and 3. you’ve got to be willing to commit to that color for the day because it’s not going anywhere without some serious scrubbing. Not convinced? Here’s a (subtitled) video showing how it’s done:
SO MUCH FUN.
Kiss Kiss Lip Scrub by Tony Moly ($10) – Tony Moly is a brand I’m only recently discovering, but so far I like everything I’ve tried. More importantly, everything has a hilariously adorable container, like the blueberry lip balm in a blueberry and the panda-shaped hand cream. This lip scrub made the list because not only is it the best lip scrub I’ve tried, but it’s perfectly exfoliating for the peel-off Oops My Lip Tint above! Best of all though, it’s in a set of smackers. Seriously, how cute is that container?
These products may look like a gimmick but shouldn’t beauty be fun? Playful products aren’t just for kids anymore, guys. I’m loving the cuteness, it makes being an adult way more fun!
XO,
Jill
