Hey guys! Sorry for the late report on my December BirchboxIMG_5013

If you are just now joining us, Birchbox sends out deluxe, high-end samples at $10/month. One of the great things about Birchbox is you can earn points which translates to money to spend in their store where you can purchase full-sized items beauty and lifestyle items just by giving some feedback about what you received. We love giving our opinions, so this works well for Jill and I.

This month’s theme was All Wrapped Up, which really didn’t translate to anything in the box. They do always list their products, which is always helpful, especially when they include something kind of confusing.

But the big winner of the month is the free $10 gift certificate they included for use with a $35 purchase. It might be time for my gold water bottle.

So let’s see what we got this month…

Here we go! IMG_5027

Coastal Scents styleEYES Eyeshadow Palette – glamourEYES ($12)

I have always liked Coastal Scents palettes. Out of all the Urban Decay Naked dupes, they make some of the best at awesome prices. I haven’t worn traditional powder shadow in months, due to my unhealthy obsession with Colourpop, but it’s nice to have some decent grey/black shadows around for when you want a great smoky eye so I am going to hold onto this!

The Balm Cosmetics FratBoy Blush ($21)

I laughed when I saw the name of this blush because if there is one thing in the world that does not make me blush, it’s a Frat Boy. I did not care for the Frat Boys when I was in college and somehow my distaste for them has only grown. The blush on the other hand is decent, but I have never totally understood the size of these samples. It works as a luminizer but a blush, it’s hard to really get enough on the brush to really use. Though I did swipe it on my hand and it looked like a really sheer, natural pink that would look really pretty if you have the full-size version.

L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil Nourishing Masque ($37)

Oh, Birchbox. I asked them to stop sending me super heavy hair products and then here they go, sending me a nourishing hair mask. I may try this but ugh. Do better, Birchbox! Give me  more products for thicker, bigger hair please!

(Malin+Goetz) Clarifying Clay Mask ($48)

I haven’t had the chance to try this yet because my skin is more oily than dry right now but I totally know I will be using this later and I’m glad I got a decent sized sample because this will last for a little bit.

Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray ($25)

This was the sample I chose this month and I was glad I did. Now, this spray will not make your hair shiny and pretty, but if you spray it at the roots, you WILL get texture and volume. But you are going to want to use it thoughtfully or else you will end up with a sticky mess.

Final Grade: B

I liked this month’s Birchbox but it wasn’t the best one I’ve ever received. I got some decent products and some ehhhhh products but I still got some awesome volumizer/texture spray and some great smoky eye shadow!
