I am so excited to review the February Play! by Sephora box! This is one of my very favorite (and cheapest!) beauty subscriptions at only $10/month. The problem is that it’s not widely available yet! However, I think Jill finally got off of the (long) waiting list and is excited to receive her first box next month!
Some of the benefits of joining PLAY! by Sephora:
- The awesome products, of course
- The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
- Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!
- The PLAY! BOOK rivals the Allure Beauty Box Mini Mag. It’s that good.
Here’s February’s box, with a Now & Later theme.
One of my favorite parts of this subscription is the little “catalog/magazine” they send in lieu of a boring product card. It’s full of tips and tricks and tons of info.
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes ($21): I like this mascara a lot but I don’t LOVE it the way I do some of my favorites. However, this will be a good one to toss in my purse for on the go touch-ups. I’ll definitely use this sample but won’t buy the full-size version. There are too many others at Sephora I love more!
Bumble and bumble Bb pret-à-powder ($27): Sigh. So many friends have encouraged me to use this (including Jill), but I have found that it makes my hair way flatter than it was before, so I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing wrong. Since I don’t feel the pressure of investing in a full-size product, I am going to play around with this and see if I can get it to work as it’s supposed to. I’m going to think positively. I’m taking baby steps at learning how to style my hair. This has been a life-long struggle.
Tom Ford Black Orchid ($98): You know, I would love to be the gal that can claim that I only wear Tom Ford fragrances but to be honest, his fragrances tend to err on the side of masculine to me and I am just not totally into it. However, out of all of his fragrances that I’ve smelled, this is my favorite. I’ve added this as a sample in many orders over the years because I still find the scent very alluring but not enough to actually buy it for myself. As you know, I’m terrible at describing scents, so I’ll let Sephora do it for me:
Notes: Black Truffle, Ylang-Ylang, Bergamot, Black Currant, Black Orchid, Black Iris, Black Plum, Lotuswood, Coconut, Cinnamon, Balsam, Vanilla
I’ll definitely wear the sample, as I do whenever I get it, but I’m not sure I will ever actually buy it.
Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Lipstick ($20): I am pretty sure I got this same Make Up For Ever lipstick in a birthday gift set from Sephora last year. It’s pretty! In the nude family (swatch below) but doesn’t look awesome on me. Of course, it doesn’t look BAD on me. Just not awesome. 😉
Lancôme DRAMA LIQUI-PENCIL Longwear Eyeliner ($23): I like to use a dark brownish burgundy color by Bare Minerals on my waterline but I’m always interested to see if other brands will last. This pencil is super soft so I’m interested if it will hold up over time. I’ll report back if it becomes a favorite!
BareMinerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm in Pink Plum ($16): I am LOVING Play! by Sephora because I have always wanted to try these lip “oil-balms.” As I’m wearing it, I am trying to think of how to describe it. It’s SUPER moisturizing. Not sheer, but not totally opaque either. Very shiny and comfortable to wear. I think I will get a few of these in different colors. I like the formula that much! I will note that it doesn’t TASTE great but… I guess we aren’t SUPPOSED to eat it.
Here are some swatches of the MUFE Lipstick (top) and the BareMinerals Oil-Balm (bottom)
Final Grade: A
I really enjoyed this month’s Play! by Sephora box. I always enjoy smelling Tom Ford Black Orchid, and I was really interested in trying the BareMinerals Oil-Balm. I’m also glad to have another opportunity to experiment with the Bumble and bumble Pret-à-Powder and Tarte’s Lights, Camer, Lashes mascara.
There is still a wait list for the box but hopefully it will roll out to everyone around May or June! Click here to add your name to the list!
