As someone who is annoyed by Birchbox’s updates to their rewards program, I decided to cancel my Birchbox and get a new box, which led me to BeautyFix by Dermstore.com. My friend Erin recommended it to me, and it seemed really cool. While it doesn’t have the nice $10 price tag that Birchbox does, I feel like the value of BeautyFix is going to be much better,
Some perks of BeautyFix:
- $100+ value in each box
- Curated by skin experts
- Professional-grade and hard-to-find spa exclusives
- Mostly full and deluxe travel sizes.
- Free Shipping
The monthly subscription cost is $25 but you can buy one-off boxes at $35. They don’t currently have a referral program, but if you wanted to comment with your email, I can send you a $10-Off coupon, which you can use towards a BeautyFix box!
I was really surprised about how many products were included!
LumaRx Detail Trimmer ($19): Getting rid of facial hair isn’t the sexiest thing to talk about but I’ll get real with you: I already use a little razor like this for the hair on my upper lip and around my chin. I’m blonde and have blonde facial hair (aside from occasional weird rogue chin hairs) but getting rid of some of that hair makes my makeup go on smoother. Since I already have one of these, (but a different brand) I may just keep this until my other version bites the dust. Or I might keep it in my travel bag!
Keranique Lift and Replair Treatment Spray ($18): I LOVE this stuff. This is the perfect blow dry spray. Basically this stuff makes my naturally straight hair smooth, but not flat. This definitely gives my hair a little volume, also. I love this stuff, and I’m glad I got a full-size. I will likely re-buy this!
ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Marine Cream ($128/full-size $38.40/sample): Every now and then, I receive products I’ve never heard of before, but they are super expensive, so I am happy to try them. This is one of those times. I have never heard of this product but the Pro-Collagen Marine Cream is clinically proven to reduce the depth of wrinkles by 19% and increase hydration by 10% after 15 days, the powerful anti-ageing properties of Pro-Collagen Marine Cream provide an accelerated lifting effect through increased collagen support. I’m very excited to try this!
SuperSmile Mini-Professional Whitening System ($36): I have heard of SuperSmile but I haven’t used any of their products yet. I’m going to the dentist this week but after that, I am going to try this and see if it makes a difference.
Laura Gellar Beauty Pout Perfection Waterproof Lip Liner in Cabernet ($18): Lip liners typically are not part of my usual routine, but I do occasionally want to use one. I like this one because it seems like it’s a little darker than my natural lip color. So if I want a natural look, I can use this. And it really is waterproof. It lasted through my shower until I specifically scrubbed it off of my hand with soap. So that’s good to know, for it being on my mouth and all. Will probably last through a meal and wine!
MDSolarSciences Daily Eye Repair Emulsion ($82/full-size $27/sample): One of my favorite things about subscription boxes is that I get to try all different kinds of fancy eye creams, especially really expensive ones like this. The Daily Eye Repair Emulsion made the skin around my eyes SO soft and smooth. This is definitely a cream I could wear under makeup, and this is potentially something I will buy. (Seriously! It’s that good.)
Erno Laszlo Hydraphel Skin Supplement ($55/ full size $5/sample): I already love the Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar but I haven’t been using it lately, so I’m going to start using it again with the combo of this toner to see how my skin feels.
We also got samples of PCA Skin Sheer Tint Broad Spectrum 45 SPF and HydroPeptide Face Lift Advanced Ultra-Light Moisturizer, both of which seem like great products, but the size of the samples will make it hard to see if they will actually do anything. But it was nice to include them.
Grade: A
I’m super impressed with my first BeautyFix box. They included a ton of really good products that I am excited to try, and it seems like the value of this $25 box was approximately $135. Ummm. That is awesome. I’m especially excited about all the skin care products I will get to try. This is my first box but I’m definitely feeling really good about the value and the products I will get to try.

I don’t understand the new points state from birchbox. Can you explain? Thank you 🙂
This was SUPER confusing, and Birchbox made some huge errors in how they communicated the change to their customers. However, I already went back and forth with them so I can now break it down for you! Currently, with your Birchbox subscription, you can review the samples you receive in exchange for points, which add up to dollars to spend in their stores. If you reviewed all 5 products, you’d essentially have $5 to spend in the store. (Though you could only spend them in denominations of $10.) The changes are as follows: July will be the last month that you can review your samples for points. Instead, you will earn points for shopping in their store. I rarely shopped in the Birchbox store without the incentive of their points system. I am a Sephora VIB Rouge and I also love Ulta, so I’m not really lacking in the beauty product store department. And because I haven’t been super impressed with my Birchbox samples as of late, I don’t really think it’s worth my $10 each month anymore. Obviously, this is just my opinion, based on the products I’ve received. I also receive a lot of boxes, (if you hadn’t guessed!) so I don’t really need that “surprise” in the mail that a lot of people really enjoy. But I think the Allure Beauty Box or Play! by Sephora are two great boxes I always reccommend in the same Birchbox price-point. This was really long-winded, let me know if you need any more info!
Thank you! Aw man! That sucks. I liked reviewing for points and eventually $. I used my last points to buy my husband a Father’s Day gift. I rarely shop in the birchbox store though. Now it’ll be even less. Thank you for the thorough explaination. ??
I’m actually considering canceling Birchbox too, because of the point system change. I actually used almost all of my accrued points yesterday so I wouldn’t lose them. I may check this one out.
Yeah, while BeautyFix is definitely more expensive than Birchbox, I think the value is pretty incredible. I haven’t been super impressed with my Birchboxes as of late, so I think I will get more bang for my buck here. I am waiting for my July box before I cancel (so I can get those last few review points!) and cash in my points. I’ll have $20, so that will help me buy some hair stuff. 🙂 I’m really interested to see future BeautyFix boxes.
