Welcome to our review of the June 2016 Play! by Sephora box! I THINK that the waitlist has finally opened up, so I believe you can sign up to receive Play! by Sephora now! Wooo! Let us know if you’re off the wait list!

Some of the benefits of joining PLAY! by Sephora:

  • The awesome products, of course.
  • The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
  • Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!
  • The PLAY! BOOK outlines how to use the products, similar to the Allure Beauty Box Mini Mag.

Let’s see what we got!

Tarte Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum 30 ($32): Although I KNOW I am supposed to wear sunscreen every day, I have to admit that I don’t always do it. I do use makeup that contains sunscreen but I know that isn’t the best if I’m going to be out in the sun. I also am loathe to put on sunscreen that might break me out because I am vain. I should be vain about the wrinkles I will get but I’m more vain about the zits I will get in the short term. But this sunscreen should be the answer to my prayers. From the Sephora site:

The lightweight, non-sticky liquid lotion contains all-mineral, non-chemical and broad spectrum SPF 30 ingredients that help protect against the sun’s damaging UVA/UVB rays that can cause dryness, redness, dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. Recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation for daily use, the skinvigorating™ formula is also infused with maracuja, red algae, soybean, apple, and honeysuckle extracts to nourish, tone, and retain moisture while helping to combat signs of aging for a firmer, brighter, smoother appearance. The fresh, ocean’s lily scent allows for luxurious, spa-like daily applications, while the high-performance liquid emulsion seamlessly melts into skin, leaving it supremely soft and silky.

Doesn’t that make you want to wear it every day? I likely won’t wear it every day, but I will definitely be wearing this under makeup or alone when I need to spend time outside.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara ($24): I’ve tried this mascara before but have always preferred the other Benefit mascara, Roller Lash. That said, I will totally use the heck out of this They’re Real mascara, as it will go straight into my purse for those days when I randomly forget mascara. (It happens.)

bareMinerals BareSkin Sheer Sun Serum Bronzer ($28): I am really interested in this because while I think it’s an all over bronzer. I think I can add a few drops to my current bb cream (which right now isn’t even a bb cream, it is the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream) and I am hoping that the bronzing serum can add a bit of color and give me a little bit of a glow.

Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler ($31): I haven’t had the chance to use this yet but I have a feeling that this probably isn’t a great product for me. I think it’s probably meant for people who already have a little curl or wave in their hair and this product will help give your hair a bit of texture and style when you air dry.

BECCA Backlight Priming Filter ($38): THIS is the product I’m most excited about trying. The BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone is my HOLY GRAIL of highlighters. It’s a powder but the formula is so silky and smooth that it just melts into your skin. It’s a bit pricy but will last a relly long time because a little goes a long way. Though sometimes I get excited and put it all over, and I look like a Twilight vampire – BUT I LOVE IT. (Obviously, you do not have to look like a Twilight vampire. You can show some restraint.) But this primer will give skin a slight sheen (not sparkle) so you start out with that glow-y kind of skin we all want. Then you can layer your other products on top, but you are starting with such a beautiful, lit-from-within glow!

TOCCA Florence Perfume ($68): This is the monthly perfume. I really loved the scent, so I looked it up to see what notes it had:
Italian Bergamot, Grapefruit Leaves, Green Pear, Apple, Ivory Gardenia, Crushed Violet Petals, Jasmine, Tuberose, Blue Iris, Blonde Wood, White Musk.

I love basically all of those things so it’s no secret that I would like this perfume. You got me again, Sephora. I think I am going to buy the rollerball version.

Final Grade: A

I loved this box! This is one of those rare boxes where I am going to use everything! And for $10, that is an incredible value. I love being able to try different Sephora products through this box because even though sometimes I feel like I know more than the Sephora employees, I definitely haven’t tried ALL of their products. Yet.

5 Comments on Play! by Sephora – June 2016

  1. This was my second Play box and I really loved it. After the May box, I wasn’t sure I would keep the subscription but June changed my mind!

  2. Ugh. I’ve been waiting on said wait list for months now!!!! I saw this article and thought I may get lucky, maybe missed an email somewhere, so I input my email and boom, the dreaded red message popped up. They don’t even send confirmation of you being put on a wait list which is a little frusturating. I hope I don’t get put back at the end of the list for putting in my email again. I already have Birchbox and ipsy, but I.need.more!!! I envy your bag of goodies lady!

    • Girl, I know. I never even knew I was on the wait list either. Jill and I were confused by the whole thing. I found out I was off the waitlist when my box showed up. You should check out Allure Beauty Box. (I have a lot of reviews about them, too!) I think it’s better than the Sephora box. Good luck!
