Welcome to our review of the July 2016 Play! by Sephora box! I THINK that the waitlist has finally opened up, so I believe you can sign up to receive Play! by Sephora now! Wooo! Let us know if you’re off the wait list!

Some of the benefits of joining PLAY! by Sephora:

  • The awesome products, of course.
  • The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
  • Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!
  • The PLAY! BOOK outlines how to use the products, similar to the Allure Beauty Box Mini Mag

They have started to include little canvas bags, as the subscriptions opened up to a wider audience which is kind of neat but I don’t always know what to do with them. That being said, this month’s bag had a cute popsicle on it, so I will definitely keep this one!

Here’s a shot of the insert about the products. It opens up almost in a poster type booklet where you can see information and tips about all the products.

Ouai Wave Spray ($26): I cannot tell you how much I have heard about Ouai. The founder of Ouai, Jen Atkin, is the celebrity stylist behind so many Cool Girls in Hollywood. Some Kardashians. Jessica Alba. Katy Perry. Jennifer Lopez. Gwen Stefani. So she was already kind of the “It” girl. Then she launched her haircare line and suddenly she was the one in the spotlight. I saw her one day when she took over Sephora’s snapchat. She and her line just exude that look of touseled, easy hair. Do I think this Ouai Wave Spray is going to magically turn me into Gwen? No. But I’m hoping it will help give my hair a bit of texture before I pull it into a touseled pony-tail or curl it.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser ($20): This is a great gentle, kind of foamy wash that I can throw into my gym bag! (Which is exactly what I did after I ran out of my Origins sample!

beautyblender blotterazzi ($20/2): I actually received these as a free gift with a Birchbox purchase and I kind of forget that I have them! These are meant to help blot excess oil from your face instead of having to use blotting papers and without damaging the makeup underneath. Unlike the regular beautyblender, these are meant to be used dry.

I was trying to show how thin this blotterazzi combared to their original beautyblender.

NEST Citrine ($68): I am normally not into the perfume samples that I receive but I REALLY love this one. I think I was initially biased by the name because my mom gave me some beautiful citrine jewelry. But since I am terrible at describing scents, I’ll let Sephora do it for me:

Notes:
Lemon Blossom, Lotus Flower, Freesia, Dew Drop Accord, Precious Woods.
Style:
Bright. Refreshing. Sparkling.

Benefit Cosmetics Dew the Hoola Soft Matte Liquid Bronzer ($28): This is a matte liquid bronzer that I am not entirely sure how to use it. I am so pale, and a little goes a long way. I typically like a light dusting of bronzing powder so I am going to have to figure this out!

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($36): Jill and I were talking about how many samples of this primer we have received in boxes. Close to a dozen. I do not like this particular primer because it has that silcon feel that doesn’t always work great with moisturizers/foundations, etc. I know some people swear by it, so they must have a different concoction of products than me.

Grade: A

For a $10 box, this month’s Play! by Sephora box was a great value. Just the blotterazzi is worth $10 alone! I was obviously excited to feel like a celebrity with my Ouai wave spray.

A self-proclaimed beauty junkie/hoarder with a serious Sephora problem. This blog is a total rationalization of that problem. Everything is TOTALLY fine. Her free time is a mixed combination of making fun of reality TV with her husband, hanging out with cats and finally trying to figure out how to do her hair.
