I have always been a big reader. Give me a good book and I’ll go into hiding until it’s done. Lately though, life has gotten pretty busy and I haven’t had as much time to read as I would like. I’ve been seeing ads lately for Book of the Month and I’ve been so intrigued. I’ve been wanting needing to read more, so I thought I’d give BotM a try to jumpstart my reading addiction once again.

I was really impressed by the book options I was able to choose from. I absolutely love thrillers, so I picked one that sounded pretty good. I also added on two books that I was planning to buy anyway, but only paid $10 for each of them (waaaaay less than retail).

Let’s see what I got!

The box came with some cute little touches – a box of “after book mints”, a bookmark (after all, no book lover would ever dog ear a page), and a nice little welcome note! The free tote bag that came with my subscription is actually pretty nice. It’s sturdy, high quality canvas and perfectly sized to carry around some heavy books. Love it.

book-3

The Fall Guy by James Lasdun (retail: $25.95, I paid $11.99): This was the book I selected for my October box. It’s listed as a suspenseful psychological thriller with excellent character development and twists, which sounds right up my alley, Interestingly, this book isn’t even set to be released until October 18, which means I got it over a week before its release date! VIP, yo.

book-2

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena (retail: $26.00, I paid $10.00): This book has popped up on so many recommendation lists lately! I was so excited to see it as an add-on option. It was just released in August, so it’s still a new release. Another thriller, this is a fast-paced read with near constant twists and turns. It’s one of those books you can’t put down, and I can’t wait to read it!

book-1

The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer (retail: $28.00, I paid $10.00): I know she’s pretty polarizing, but I am a big fan of Amy Schumer. I love her unapologetic feminist approach to comedy, which is why I love her Comedy Central show so much. She points out the unrealistic expectations put upon women, then mocks them into oblivion. Some find her obnoxious, I find her refreshing and honest. This “non-memoir” is entirely personal stories from her life, some hilarious and others poignant. It’s yet another new release, which is just awesome.

Final Rating: A+

I am seriously loving Book of the Month. I managed to score 3 brand new releases, all hard cover, for $31.99 while I would have paid $79.95 for them in a store. It has definitely accomplished what I had hoped, it has inspired me to read more for sure. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the book choices are for next month!
