I had an incident with my mailman last month and did not receive my October Sephora Play! by Sephora box which made me really sad. So I hoped for the best and waited to see if I would receive/not receive my November box in the same fashion and to my real surprise, it came! (It’s always pretty touch-and go when it comes to my mail.)
Price: $10/month
Box Type: This is a beauty box that contains deluxe samples (and occasionally full-sized) products that can be found at Sephora.
Why you’ll love it: Ummmm, did you see it’s all fun products that come from Sephora? Some boxes will send you random products from brands you’ve never heard of before but Play! by Sephora will only send you brands from their own store – basically all high end fun things you are excited to try! Here’s a breakdown of the benefits:
- The awesome products, of course.
- The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
- Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!
- The PLAY! BOOK outlines how to use the products, similar to the Allure Beauty Box Mini Mag

Here’s everything we got this month!
The Estée Edit by Estée Lauder Dissolve the Drama 2-in-1 Makeup Remover and Cleanser (Full-size – $32): While I tend to prefer makeup remover wipes to take off my makeup, this did the job! I used it to take off some swatches and it was great. I worry that some makeup removers like this would be greasy (I think I’m still scarred from one from Clinique I used in high school) but this one wasn’t greasy at all.
GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment (Full-size $69): OK, I am going to say it. I don’t love GLAMGLOW products. I’m glad I have gotten to try so many with subscription boxes but I just do not have the time/energy to spend 15 minutes or so trying to wash my face. I’d rather just wash my face and be done instead of having to wait til something dries down, then go rinse it off. I feel better now that I’ve gotten this off my chest. I’m sure there are people out there that love this stuff, it’s just not for me.
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold ($Full-size – $29): I tend to love little eyeshadow sticks like this because they are creamy but then tend to dry down and stay put. I also love gold shades like this for my inner eye corners, so I was excited to get this. And weirdly enough, I don’t have a ton of Laura Mercier products, so I’m happy to get to try one and I’m glad I liked it!
SEPHORA COLLECTION Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Pin Up Pink (Full-size – $12): So, this isn’t a color I will wear – ever. It’s just not my thing. That said, I did like the applicator and the formula – it was very shiny! While I’m not in the market for a new gloss (I’m too addicted to this one), I might pick up another color in this someday. Plus, Sephora’s return policy doesn’t hurt.
Stella McCartney POP (Full-size – $25-$90): I am a die-hard STELLA fan. It’s the perfume that I go back to over and over. (I’m not currently wearing it but I will totally be back to it.) As usual, I’m terrible at describing scents, so here’s what they say:
Stella McCartney POP is a floral woody fragrance that is bright, contemporary, and positive. The fragrance opens with initial notes of tomato leaves, violet leaves, and green mandarin. Heart notes of violet, tuberose, and plumeria and lasting notes of sandalwood, cedarwood, and musks add to the impression.
I’m not sure this will ever replace my STELLA but this was a lovely scent, and I’m going to definitely finish this sample.
COVER | FX Illuminating Primer (Full-size – $38): I wanted to like this primer. I really did. I just felt like it made my skin super greasy instead of simply “illuminating” it. I don’t feel like it made my makeup stay put whatsoever either. I loved the idea of this, it just didn’t work for me.
Final Grade: B
I’ll be honest, this wasn’t my favorite Sephora box. I am glad to try the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour and even though I didn’t care for it, I am glad I got to try the COVER | FX Illuminating Primer, since I had wanted to try it for awhile anyway.
