All right. I am going to be honest with you. I am not head-over-heels for this particular Allure Beauty Box. You’ll see why soon.
Price: $15.00/month
Box Type: Monthly beauty box featuring 6 high end beauty product samples (and sometimes full-sized products!).
Why you’ll love it: Top brands, great price, new products that you will love! A great way to sample expensive products without committing to the price tag. Each box comes with an Allure mini-magazine that showcases each product and is as quality as you’d expect from a magazine powerhouse like Allure.
So… let’s see what all this nonsense is about this month, shall we?
Y’all know that the Allure Mini Mag never lets me down. It’s really the best subscription box card insert thing, mostly because the Allure editors are on top of their game. (Allure is my all time fave magazine, if y’all couldn’t tell. I could read about makeup 24/7… and I try to.)
But even the Mini Mag couldn’t save this box. I mean, all I can see is the Secret Deodorant. Full disclosure, the deodorant was the “special extra” but it’s still all I can see.
John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment ($9.99): Y’all might remember that Allure sent this to us before (actually back when it was Sample Society) and while I really wanted it to work, I’m just not sure I felt much of a difference. Definitely not enough of a difference to make it memorable. and y’all know that if I get volume from something, I’m going to remember it. Maybe even try to marry it. Calm down, Lauren. But seriously. I take volume seriously and I just don’t think this product did much. Have any of y’all had luck with this?
Secret Invisible Solid Cool Waterlily ($5.49): Y’all. I just cannot get excited about a stick deodorant. Ever since Dove came out with the dry spray deodorant, I have been a convert. This stick deodorant thing seems like, so retro. Hahaha. Yeah. I don’t know. It’s deodorant.
Londontown Lakur Enhanced Colour in Cheerio ($16): After the deodorant, this was the second item I am just totally meh about. I have so much nail polish and this isn’t a color I’m really excited about. I just got a pale pink Butter London polish in my Spring TZR Box of Style box and that is just about all I need in terms of a pale pink polish. It’s not something that I gravitate towards, so I don’t need multiples. I’ll be donating this! (Or re-gifting. Haha!)
Londontown Kur Nourishing Cuticle Oil ($18): OK, so I am excited about this. At first I thought it was a nail polish top coat, which I am NOT in the market for. But I do really like cuticle oils and I have bought full-size versions of cuticle oils I’ve received in subscription boxes so I really do appreciate receiving them. My cuticles get SO dry, y’all. I’ll let you know if this becomes a favorite.
Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum ($20): I’m only mildly interested in this, as I already have a Vitamin C serum that I really love (Truth Serum is my ride-or-die, I always go back) but if I were to try a new Vitamin C serum, I would go for the Drunk Elephant version because I’ve heard such good things. I just don’t think about the Derma E line at all. I don’t think it’s bad per se, it just doesn’t interest me in the slightest. Like, I’ve never received a product from them that I am excited about. Do y’all like it? Am I missing something? Anything I should get excited about?
Akar Skin Ruby Tint Lip Butter ($28): I didn’t really hate this product because I do love the idea of a nice tinted balm. However, this stuff seemed like is was practically clear when I put it on, so the tint is negligible. (See below.) And then I found out that the number one ingredient is castor oil, which I have a major allergy to especially in lip products. So I just straight up can’t wear this. Womp, womp. However, I also think $28 is super steep for this type of product, even if I could wear it.
Final Grade: D
Ugh, I hate it when I hate a whole month of a subscription box! I am excited about the Londontown cuticle oil, but that is the only thing that saved this box from being a total fail for me. However, Allure Beauty Box is one of the most consistent boxes for delivering amazing, high end products at a bargain price, so I understand that not everyone is going to love every box every month!
