Hi everyone! I’m excited to announce the winner of our Box of Style Giveaway! Drumroll please…. Congratulations Linda Ruamthong!!! We’ll be mailing the box to you shortly! And to Linda and everyone else – thank you so much for continuing to read and now watch us! This is our favorite hobby and we love doing this for y’all every week! We appreciate your support more than you could ever know. Plus, we really, really like getting things in the mail. 🙂
And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming – our April 2017 Play! by Sephora box review! This is one of those boxes where I immediate grabbed things out of the box to use and then had to track them all down to take pictures for this blog!
Price: $10/month
Box Type: This is a beauty box that contains deluxe samples (and occasionally full-sized) products that can be found at Sephora.
Why you’ll love it: Ummmm, did you see it’s all fun products that come from Sephora? Some boxes will send you random products from brands you’ve never heard of before but Play! by Sephora will only send you brands from their own store – basically all high end fun things you are excited to try! Here’s a breakdown of the benefits:
- The awesome products, of course.
- The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
- Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!
- The PLAY! BOOK outlines how to use the products, similar to the Allure Beauty Box Mini Mag
I really loved the box this month, so let’s see what we got!
First of all, the bag. Does it not remind y’all of Wendy’s? That is the first thing I thought of and I cannot see anything else. Wendy needs hamburgers AND makeup, y’all.
Sephora does a great job describing the products themselves and how to use them.
And here’s everything we got!
SEPHORA COLLECTION Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover ($7.50-$15): This eye makeup remover definitely Gets The Job Done but what I don’t like about it (and similar formulations from other brands) is that it leaves sort of an oily film afterwards and I just HATE that. I think this is nice for travel and removing swatches but it’s not going to be my go-to daily ride-or-die makeup remover.
Kate Smomerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment ($24-$175): This is the gold standard of exfoliating products – this is sort of the one that got us all away from using St. Ives Apricot Scrub. This is the grownup version, with super tiny granules that exfoliate your skin really nicely. The only thing I don’t understand is the expensive price tag on this product. I’ll never buy a full-size version but I’ve received smaller travel-size versions over the years and will happily use them.
Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner ($21): I was super impressed with this eyeliner! Yes, it’s another black eye liner but man, it is BLACK. And it Does. Not. Budge. I swatched this on my hand a couple times and at first, I didn’t realize it was a waterproof formula, so I didn’t understand why it wasn’t going anywhere. But yeah, you can’t even smudge it with a finger, pulling super hard! So while I haven’t tried this on my eyes yet, I am looking forward to trying it on the waterline or just really close to my lashes to boost them up a bit. I know this won’t go anywhere!
Here’s the swatch that stayed with me all day long.
Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream ($52): This was the product I reached for first out of this box and one that I am almost done with! And it’s also sold out on the website! Wahhh! This stuff is AMAZING. It glides on like silk and it almost feels like it’s sitting on top of your skin for a minute… and then it sinks in and your skin just feels moisturized and just right. The website says this:
A concentrated 30 percent hyaluronic acid cream that transforms atmospheric vapor into fresh, pure water, providing your skin with a continuous burst of intense hydration that lasts up to 72 hours.
I would say it’s similar to the Belif Aqua Bomb but it just FEELS different. I might even buy the full-size of this!
Marc Jacobs Daisy ($80): I like some Marc Jacobs perfume but I have just never loved Daisy at all. It just kind of stinks to me but obviously, scent is personal, and I know this is a favorite of many.
Enter the world of Daisy: fresh and feminine, with a playful innocence. The heart of Daisy is floral with vintage edge of violet. Sophisticated, with a touch of whimsy, violet captures the eclectic, timeless flavor of Marc Jacobs’ groundbreaking feminine designs. Always elegant, always enchanting—but not too serious—Daisy is a sparkling floral bouquet, spirited and fresh, wrapped in comfort and warmth.
Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($36): So I threw this in my donate pile before I took pics of all of this, so my apologies. I just have never liked this primer- it’s super silicone-y but if you like that kind of thing… you would love this. 🙂
Final Grade: B+
This was a pretty good Play! by Sephora box! I loved 3/5 products but that Peter Thomas Roth product was amazing! That moved the grade from a B to a B+!
If you love Sephora, this box is kind of a no-brainer! Click here if you want to subscribe!
