I hate writing negative reviews. It’s the pits. That doesn’t mean I won’t write them, because I have the highest level of Journalistic Integrity. The issue is that Popsugar has been kind of disappointing me lately, which pains me because Popsugar has been one of my long-time favorites. And this box isn’t BAD per se, it’s just not as amazing as usual; I blame Popsugar for raising the bar so high that even they can’t reach it all the time.

POPSUGAR Must Have

Sigh. I just found this month to be so boring, but maybe you’ll love it? I know Lauren actually really liked it, so I’ll try not to be a total rain cloud over the May Popsugar parade.

Tocca Voyage Montauk Candle ($20) I feel like a whiny child saying this, but I just don’t like Tocca scents at all. They always just smell kind of cheap and boring. This one has really good reviews, which is shocking because it smells like a salty cucumber. And I mean that literally. A salty cucumber. Not exactly what you want your house to smell like, let’s be real.

Samantha Faye Inspiration Cuff ($60) This cuff is $60 f*cking dollars?!?!?! WHAT?? First of all, I do not have dainty wrists, so this cuff is almost tight on me. Second, inspirational quotes are kind of niche, in my opinion. I would probably wear this if I needed a silver bangle to complement a silver necklace, but I’m really more of a gold gal and it is not my style.

Lipstick Queen Mornin’ Sunshine ($25) I’m a little ticked off about this one because I actually really like it but can’t use it because I’m allergic to one of the ingredients! This lipstick changes color and adjusts to your specific pH to give you a really cute coral that matches your skin tone. Lipstick Queen is killing it with these color changing lipsticks, but I wish they would omit the castor oil so I could use them!! (Lauren: I can’t do castor oil either! I just realized that it’s the first ingredient in the Lipstick Queen lipstick I already had. No wonder my lips looked so terrible. I sadly gave it to a friend. I am sad I can’t use this one either.)

Swing Design Essex Silver Plate Frame ($13) This frame is actually pretty nice, albeit a bit boring. It comes with a matte for a 4″x6″ photo, which I really like. I have a bunch of wedding photos that need frames, so this is actually pretty perfect and would make a nice addition to my living room.

Nicely Noted Card Collection ($17.50 – a Must Have exclusive!) I kicked my feet about this one, but have come around to it. I have found that I need some greeting cards lately, so these have come in handy! They have colorful envelopes that accompany the cards, so I am glad to have them on hand. Who knew that some greeting cards could melt this icy, cynical heart.

Southern Culture Artisan Foods, Inc. Strawberry Cream Muffin Mix ($7.99) – Who knew that my favorite thing in this box would be a box of muffin mix? Actually, if you knew me you’d know that this would be exactly what I loved. I have big plans for this gourmet mix this weekend for Mother’s Day (you’re welcome, Mom!!).

Final Rating: C

I did like a few of the things, and it’s not like i hated it. But it wasn’t one of Popsugar’s best. The retail value was $143.49, which isn’t too shabby, but I just wish I loved the box more! I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that the June box is a little more interesting.
