This is one of the best Play! by Sephora boxes I have ever received! All the brands and products are super popular and I’m really impressed they were all in one box this month!

Play! by Sephora

Price: $10/month

Box Type: This is a beauty box that contains deluxe samples (and occasionally full-sized) products that can be found at Sephora.

Why you’ll love it: Ummmm, did you see it’s all fun products that come from Sephora? Some boxes will send you random products from brands you’ve never heard of before but Play! by Sephora will only send you brands from their own store – basically all high end fun things you are excited to try! Here’s a breakdown of the benefits:

  • The awesome products, of course.
  • The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
  • Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!

Here was the insert this month. They are always so creative and cute!

And here’s everything we got!

Chanel Gabrielle Chanel Eau De Parfum ($105): I love this perfume! I haven’t liked a Chanel perfume since Allure but I think this is just so bright and pretty. I was actually surprised by how much I liked it, actually. I’m not on the Chanel No. 5 train – I happen to think that stuff stinks so bad. But I think Gabrielle is just gorgeous.

Olivier Polge crafted this Eau de Parfum as an imaginary flower—a radiant and sparkling, purely feminine Chanel blossom based on a bouquet of four white flowers: a rich, enveloping heart of exotic jasmine shimmers with the fruity green notes of ylang-ylang, while fresh and sparkling orange blossom shines through, offering a glimpse of grasse tuberose captured at its finest.

Laura Mercier Translucent Powder ($38): I actually bought this a few months ago. It’s one of those staple products in the makeup community, so I thought I needed it. Even though I do have combo/oily skin, I almost feel like this is a little too drying… too… powdery. I know it’s a powder, but there are others I just like way more. The RCMA No Color Powder is great, as is the Cover FX Perfect Setting Powder.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Booster ($41): I have only used this once, but it went on really smoothly and left my skin… smooth. I am out of adjectives tonight. But it sank in really quickly and so I’m definitely going to be trying this again.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation ($43): This is one of those cult favorite foundations that I have never tried! It’s one of those things where I have always wanted to try it but I always forgot. I am so excited they sent this, and even more excited because the color was right! I have only worn this for a short time, but I think I like it. It’s light to medium coverage, but my skin is doing OK these days so I think it’s OK. I’m just not sure how this will do for a full work day. But I think this is great for weekends/no makeup makeup days.

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Moonlight ($42): I love the idea of these but I am still getting the hang of them. Quite honestly, I almost always powder my face before I remember to put this stuff on, so then I’m like, “OK, tomorrow then.” And this happens a lot. This is a hugely popular product in the industry though, so I am determined to figure it out. I have it in a few shades since I also bought this kit.

BECCA First Light Filter Primer ($38): I have only tried this once and I didn’t wear it all day, but it wore really nicely under my Dior foundation. I am just not sure if this would be good for the long haul, as in a full work day.

Final Grade: A+

As I mentioned earlier, this is one of the best boxes I have ever gotten from Play! by Sephora! I think all of the brands and products were great. I am so excited to keep using all of them. Who knows if some of them will become my new favorites!

A self-proclaimed beauty junkie/hoarder with a serious Sephora problem. This blog is a total rationalization of that problem. Everything is TOTALLY fine. Her free time is a mixed combination of making fun of reality TV with her husband, hanging out with cats and finally trying to figure out how to do her hair.

4 Comments on Play! by Sephora: October 2017

  1. This was the worst for me! Literally everything was too dark. The purple primer literally showed up purple on me, the foundation was at least 4-5 shades too dark and even the highlight was too dark for me. I was so disappointed.

    • Oh no!!! The primer disappeared into my skin pretty well. I don’t know if it made anything last longer. I so rarely get a foundation/concealer in s box that works for me so this box was an anomaly for me. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you though. 😫😫😫

  2. Agree – the makeup forever (my skin tone is LIGHT on my profile) was one of the darkest shades. I thought the flyer said you could exchange it for the right skin color but when I went to Sephora yesterday the clerk was so rude and told me they “don’t give out samples” which also, TOTALLY inaccurate as we’ve gotten plenty of samples before of different brands. GRR.
