To be honest with you, I didn’t love this box. I loved a thing or two, but I was mostly unimpressed with this month’s Birchbox, sadly. Most months are pretty top-notch as far as I’m concerned, but this month just missed the mark for me. Oh well, it happens.
Price: $10/month
Box Type: Beauty products, 5-6 deluxe samples
Why you’ll love it: Top brands, good sized samples of solid products. Their new customization process learns what you like so when you review your boxes on birchbox.com you’ll guarantee more personalized boxes. Plus, you can pick a sample you’d love to see in your box or select a pre-made box instead of leaving it to chance!

Check out what why I wasn’t over the moon for this month’s box:
Birchbox usually sends really interesting products, but this month was booooooooooring. And a perfume sample as one of the samples and not as a bonus? Lame.
Too Cool for School All-In-One Egg Mellow Cream ($36 for full-size): This was the sample I picked during the sample choice window this month. I really love this product, but it was the only product I loved this month. This Korean brand is all-around awesome, but their “egg” line in particular is my favorite. It’s got egg yolk in it for its moisturizing and plumping properties, plus it acts as a serum, priming moisturizer, eye cream, neck cream, and sleeping mask in one yummy smelling cream.
Beauty Protector Protect Shampoo & Conditioner ($23-$62.50 each for full-size): I like this brand a lot, and I am pretty sure it’s exclusive to Birchbox. But usually when they send shampoo and conditioner samples, they are counted as one of the 5-6 items, not two. This shampoo and conditioner duo protects hair with pearl powder as it cleans and nourishes, and they are great sizes for travel. I’m just bummed that my box felt so light this month!
Lord & Berry Magic Brow Pencil ($22 for full-size): I love a good brow pencil, but this one is not it. At least for me. The product is marbled with various hues, which is meant to mimic natural brow colors and look more natural when applied. The one they sent is specifically the brunette color, but when I used it the color is super red. Like auburn-red. Kinda brown, but mostly rust colored. I don’t know too many brunettes who have rust-red eyebrows, so I’m confused about why they pigmented this with such a red hue. The concept of marbled color is very intriguing and kind of genius, but the color was so disappointing!
TokyoMilk Dark Tainted Love Eau de Parfum ($42 for full-size): I actually like this scent quite a bit, but I’m annoyed that a tiny perfume sample is one of my 5 samples this month and not included as an extra! That said, it is a great fragrance and I’m glad I got to try it. Silver linings FTW!
Final Rating: C
The box wasn’t a total flop because I am really excited to have a smaller bottle of the Egg Mellow Cream, but the rest of it was rather disappointing. I am hoping next month is better! At least Birchbox does rock with their Black Friday sales, so they will inevitably redeem themselves then!
xo,
Jill
