Like the Play! by Sephora box, I canceled my Allure Beauty Box subscription but now I am thinking about picking both back up. I pulled back a LOT of my spending recently but I think I can have a $25 treat every month. (For both Allure and Sephora.) So this WAS going to be my last Allure Beauty Box, but it may not be. STAY TUNED!
Price: $15.00/month
Box Type: Monthly beauty box featuring 6 high end beauty product samples (and sometimes full-sized products!).
Why you’ll love it: Top brands, great price, new products that you will love! A great way to sample expensive products without committing to the price tag. Each box comes with an Allure mini-magazine that showcases each product and is as quality as you’d expect from a magazine powerhouse like Allure.
How To Subscribe: Click here! (If there’s a space for it, tell them we sent you! They don’t have a referral program but they obviously should.)
As I say in every Allure Beauty Box review, one of the best parts of the subscription is the Allure Mini Mag. I love Allure, so I do love reading what the Allure editors think of the various products.
And here’s everything we got!
Youth to the People Age Prevention Moisture Cream ($48): This is not my first time trying this cream but I really like it so I’m glad I have another one! It’s an extremely lightweight moisturizer, so if you have really dry skin, this ain’t for you. One of my favorite ways to wear this is in the mornings after I wash my face before I go to spin. If I put something super heavy on my skin, it just feels gross when I start sweating. But if I don’t use anything, my skin feels tight and dry. So this stuff just absorbs really quickly so my skin just feels hydrated but not greasy at all.
Skinfix Minty Mint Lip Repair Balm ($4.99): You have no idea how happy I am that this does not have castor oil in it. I’m sure I am a broken record by this point about my castor oil allergy, but it’s in so many dang lip products! It’s tricky like that. There isn’t much to say about this except I love lip balm, so I am glad I can use this one! Matt might even like it because he loves a minty lip balm.
Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Liquid Lip in Gwyneth ($24): This lipstick doesn’t seem like the traditional liquid lipstick that dries down to a transfer-proof matte finish. This just seems like a very pigmented lipstick that is in liquid form. Juice Beauty’s Creative Director is Gwyneth Paltrow, so methinks this is a shade that she really likes.
Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara ($23): I’m going to write a full blog either this week or next about why Tarte is canceled but… they are canceled. I am not buying any more of their products. That said, I will use the Tarte products that I do own. It’s dumb to throw away things you already have for a boycott, as they already have my money. I’d be the only one losing here. (I’m picturing the trend where people who were mad at Keurig made videos of themselves breaking their own machines. Like… why.) The good-ish news is that I don’t love this mascara anyway. I think the wand is suuuuuuper pointy and actually hurts a little bit to apply. But that said, if I need a mascara and I’m out, I’m sure I’ll reach for this.
Cle Essence Moonlighter Cushion ($30): When I first saw this, I assumed it was a cushion foundation. Apparently the Allure editor made the same mistake. But this is actually a highlighter! I couldn’t figure out a way to photograph this where it would show up. but it was really nice! I think this would be great for those no-makeup makeup days to add a slight sheen to the face. It does have some glitter in it, but nothing over the top or crazy. I love my powder highlights but I like that this brought me out of my comfort zone a bit.
Here’s what it looked like on the inside.
And here’s the cushion opened up. It looks very dark but it’s not at all. It’s definitely more like a champagne-y gold-y highlight that is flattering on mostly fair/medium skin tones. I’m not sure this would work for those that have a very dark skin tone.
Final Grade: A
The February Allure Beauty Box was really great! I’m going to use all of the products (even the Tarte mascara, begrudgingly). Even if the lip balm is the lowest value product in the box, I am so excited because I’m going to be able to use it!
This box has definitely made me re-think my decision to cancel. Are you going to subscribe? If you are interested, click here!
