I am really happy with this box! I picked a sample this month and let Birchbox decide the rest, and I’m very happy with what I received.
Laura Geller LashBOSS Mascara ($24 for full-size): I like this mascara. I haven’t always been the biggest fan of Laura Geller products, only because they don’t particularly stand out to me in the store. I have liked everything I’ve ever tried, they just rarely bowl me over with excitement. This mascara surprised me. It really lengthened and curled my lashes, which is exactly what I want ALL mascara to do, but most fall short. Maybe one day in about 20 years when I finally run out of mascara, I will buy the full-sized version of this.
Winky Lux Glazed Donut Lip Gloss in Sugar Glaze ($13 for full-size): This was the sample I selected this month! It’s a holographic lip topper, and it’s definitely not at all something I would ever wear, but I just NEEDED it. It’s so sparkly and shiny and pretty and I just wanted to see what it was like. It’s exactly what you think it’d be – a clear coat that gives a holographic sheen over whatever you put it on. I have really fallen for Winky Lux as a brand. Their products are so pretty, their packaging is adorable, and the price point is exactly what I want to pay for their products.
GlamGlow SuperCleanse Clearing Cream-to-Foam Cleanser ($32 for full-size): Like pretty much every GlamGlow product I’ve ever tried, this is sadly waaaaaay too drying for my skin. The whole point is that it combats oiliness, so this should have been very easy to predict. It’s loaded with charcoal to detoxify skin, but my skin is way too dry for that kind of funny business. This would probably be fantastic for someone with oily skin though; they claim it transforms skin into a smoother, healthier complexion with each use. I will say this, the texture is very creamy, which transforms to a thick nice foam when you lather it, which I liked a lot.
Amika Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray ($25 for full-size): This spray is awesome. It’s a volumizing spray that doesn’t weigh hair down at all, and it doesn’t leave your hair sticky when it’s dry! I have used this spray before, and I’ve liked it a lot each time. I have been in the market for a new volumizing product, so I have been testing a lot out lately to see which one is going to give me Perfect AF Hair. While this one wasn’t perfect, it’s pretty close. I found I needed to blow dry my hair to get the volume, and I am looking for one that will volumize perfectly when I leave my hair to air dry. I have found that different products work better when I have shorter hair, which I will go back to in the spring, so I will shelf this one and wait until then and see how it does.
Tokyomilk Dark Eau de Parfum ($42 for full-size): This scent was a little too strong for me, but that doesn’t really describe what it actually smells like, so I am going to let the Tokyomilk website do the talking: “Dare to challenge convention with a deeply decadent Amber Resin and Patchouli, a lavish mix of rich woods with an irresistibly sultry touch. A distinguished indulgence.” I consider perfume samples to be little bonuses in boxes instead of a full sample, so it’s ok if they miss the mark for me sometimes.
Final Rating: A
I really liked this box! I wanted to try the Winky Lux holographic topper, so everything else was really just extra for me this month. I came away with a couple new products that I really liked, so it’s a win all around. The April sample choice was just revealed, and I am very excited about next month’s options!
