Oh, the irony. Not two days after I shared my thoughts about why Kat Von D is a garbage person, this box arrived at my door. So this is going to be a fairly short blog, as I don’t really want to talk about her products. However, I will give you recommendations for better products.
Price: $15.00/month
Box Type: Monthly beauty box featuring 6 high end beauty product samples (and sometimes full-sized products!).
Why you’ll love it: Top brands, great price, new products that you will love! A great way to sample expensive products without committing to the price tag. Each box comes with an Allure mini-magazine that showcases each product and is as quality as you’d expect from a magazine powerhouse like Allure.

Sigh. This box actually has a really high value, as there are several full-sized items. I would estimate this box would be around $85, which is pretty amazing for a $15 box. However, her eyeliner is garbage, so I would recommend the Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner ($22) over the KVD any day of the week. The new Colourpop Creme Lux Lipstick formula ($7) is fabulous and their Lippie Pencils ($5) are pretty amazing also. I’m not going to lie, I actually really like that travel mirror – I did always like how her mirrors and compacts looked like a wax seal. But you can find a mirror literally anywhere so you certainly don’t have to buy hers.
Ole Henriksen Transforming Walnut Scrub ($28): I was SUPER excited to see a full-sized Ole Henriksen product in this box! It was sort of random with all the Kat Von D stuff, but hey – I’m not complaining! I like having a scrub in the shower and I just ran out of the Dr. Brandt one I had been using so I’m excited to give this one a try. This isn’t like the St. Ives Apricot Scrub of yore that was actually destroying your skin. The ingredients in the Ole Henriksen scrub have been ground into a fine powder so the scrub spreads on smoothly and rinses off easily without irritating skin. I really enjoy Ole Henriksen products so I’m thrilled to see if this one will be added to my favorites list!
(Editor’s note: I originally wrote, “I just wanted to remind you to not buy Kat Von D products because she is an antisemite and an anti-vaxxer, And I’m honestly not sure which is worse.” A reader named Eleanor rightly called me out because being a racist is unequivocally worse than making a terrible medical decision, and I have no idea why I phrased it that way. While I’m not a huge Kay Bon D fan…..everyone has a right to make choices for themselves and their kids. You are so quick to condemn her. It’s her choice, she will and can deal with whatever consequences arrive. But calling her a garbage person for that? Just unfollow and move on. Right now you’re not acting any better.
She married a dude with swastika tattoos and has a history of antisemitism. She’s much worse than just the anti-vaxxing. If you read my other blog on the topic, you’d know what a huge fan I used to be. But now I’ll definitely tell people not to support her and buy her products, since I have the platform to do so. People can do what they want, but they can’t say they didn’t know what kind of a person she is.
But I also don’t agree that people should have the right not to vaccinate their children. I know they currently do and there’s nothing I can do about that. But it’s truly a danger to our society not to vaccinate, and the people that refuse to listen to science should be called out for their irresponsible viewpoint.
Everyone has a right to make choices for themselves and their families, so long as those choices do not affect the greater community. KVD is using her platform to spread misinformation about vaccines, which can be harmful to the immunocompromised, elderly, and newborns or young children who do not have the ability to fight off diseases the way a healthy person would.
While it is true that a very small number of people are unable to receive vaccines due to ingredient allergies, it is also true that it is crucial for the majority of people who can get vaccines to get them. If the majority of people get vaccinated, they are resistant to those illnesses, meaning that the immunocompromised people are protected through reduced exposure to harmful viruses or bacteria. However, this breaks down if a large percentage of people don’t get vaccinated, which can lead to outbreaks of preventable diseases such as measles.
You killed your credibility by saying between anti vaxer and anti Semite you don’t know which is worse. You shouldn’t be condemning others if you have that level of moral confusion. Here, I’ll help , anti Semite is worse
You’re right, I very much agree with you. I’m embarrassed that there were signs of antisemitism over the years that I brushed off. I wish I had taken that stuff more seriously when it came up. Seeing the full picture of all of her actions over the years after the anti-vaxx stuff was eye-opening. I promise that I will do better. I appreciate your comment.
I edited the blog to reflect your comment. I really appreciate you calling me out – I definitely need it sometimes.
