This doesn’t really have anything to do with the Allure Beauty Box, but I was recently in Baltimore with my bestie Melissa and finally got to hang out with Jill again in real life, and wanted to share!

I mean, look how cute we are! We spend much of the night marveling over my Mobile Cat Selfie Light ($12), which made us all look very beautiful, even though we were getting progressively drunker as the night went on. It was just so amazing to get to hang out with her again. We text all the time, so it really seemed totally normal to be hanging out. It was really weird – it almost still felt like Melissa and I still lived there. Like, just another night in Baltimore, hanging with Jill, NBD. It was so surreal and so much fun.

Though this past trip was a Girls’ Trip, Matt and I will be going back in November-ish when Jill opens her brewpub, so I am excited to see her (and Melissa!) again so soon! Though of course, she will have her hands full with, you know, opening a business. But I’m still very excited to go back! Matt has been to Baltimore with me before and I love taking him to all the old haunts. (He eats crab cakes at every possible location, so he really enjoys himself.) On this last trip, I got my tragus and conch pierced at Mt. Vernon Body Art (pics to come!) , and had an incredible experience, so I might get a new tattoo there when we go back!

Box Type: Monthly beauty box featuring 6 high end beauty product samples (and sometimes full-sized products!).

Why you’ll love it: Top brands, great price, new products that you will love! A great way to sample expensive products without committing to the price tag. As always, the Allure Beauty Box comes with the Allure Mini-Mag, in which the Allure editors describe why they love the products in the box. I love Allure, so this is one of my fave parts of the box.

And here’s everything we got this month! I’ll describe everything in more detail below.

NEXXUS Keraphix Damage Healing Shampoo ($12.99) and Conditioner ($17.99): Unfortunately, because of my hair’s Special Needs, I am not sure I can use these for now, so I will probably donate these. I also think I received these in a Target box recently, and came to the same conclusion. I just can’t really do sulfates right now, so these just aren’t for me.

LaRitzy Cosmetics Light Stix in Halo ($24): It’s really nice that we received a full-size cream highlighter in this box. I haven’t tried this brand before, so it was nice to be able to play around with it. Upon initial swatching, it really didn’t seem like too much, which is why I didn’t swatch it for the blog – I honestly don’t think you’d be able to see it. But once I played with it a bit more, I actually realized that this highlighter was really GOLD, when I initially thought it was more champagne. I think it’s actually slightly too gold for me, but I think this would look lovely on medium skin tones, maybe even deep. The only issue I had with this is that I didn’t think it lasted very long on my skin. After a few hours… it was just gone. But if you like subtle highlights, you might like thi!

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner ($22): I think it’s amazing that we get a full-size Eyeko eyeliner in a $15 Allure Beauty Box. Eyeko liners are some of my very favorite, and I think they are a zillion times better than Kat Von D liners but somehow have way less hype. They are super black and last forever, so I highly recommend!

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet ($39): This is a really nice moisturizer that I’ve used before. I think it’s probably best for oily/combo, maybe even normal skin types. I am not sure it would be enough moisture for dry skin. But I love the texture of this moisturizer – it’s a bit… fluffier? Than a normal moisturizer, so it feels really nice on the skin and wears nicely under makeup.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask ($20): This shit is my JAM. This box came right before my trip to Baltimore, so I popped it right into my bag, because I have the full-size version by my bed. Jill was hanging out in our hotel room and was like, “do you have any lip balm?” and I handed her this. Fast forward two weeks and she has the full-size in her cart for the VIB Rouge Sale. In conclusion, 2/2 bloggers on this particular blog think it’s awesome, as do most others who try this. The full-size will last you forever, y’all should get on this!

Breda Watch Gift Card: I had never heard of Breda watches, but this box came with a $30 gift card to use on my next order. I have an Apple Watch so I really don’t need this but hey, I’m just reporting The Facts, like a responsible journalist.

Final Grade: B

I think it would have been really hard to beat the July Allure Beauty Box, but the August version is OK. Of course, I couldn’t use the shampoo/conditioner, but I don’t hold the box responsible for my Special Hair Needs. However, I really didn’t care for the LaRitzy highlighter, so that was kind of a bummer. Everything else is a win, so I’m excited to use the Caudalie moisturizer, Eyeko liner and Laneige lip mask!

A self-proclaimed beauty junkie/hoarder with a serious Sephora problem. This blog is a total rationalization of that problem. Everything is TOTALLY fine. Her free time is a mixed combination of making fun of reality TV with her husband, hanging out with cats and finally trying to figure out how to do her hair.

  1. Eyeko is the first brand of liquid eyeliner I ever used successfully… They used to offer a version that came in colors and they had THE. MOST. PERFECT. green shade for my eye color. Last I checked they no longer offered it, which makes me v. sad, because I’ve never found another brand that came close to the right color AND amazing formula.
