Play! by Sephora

Price: $10/month

Box Type: Beauty products, 5-6 deluxe samples

Why you’ll love it: Ummmm, did you see it’s all fun products that come from Sephora? Some boxes will send you random products from brands you’ve never heard of before but Play! by Sephora will only send you brands from their own store – basically all high end fun things you are excited to try! Here’s a breakdown of the benefits:

  • The awesome products, of course.
  • The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
  • Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!

As always, each Play! by Sephora box comes with 50 bonus points, and I honestly need to get better about taking advantage of this benefit. Usually, I shop online and there are sometimes better deluxe samples I can take advantage of versus getting 50 points. But I am going to return something in-store, so I am going to see if I can use this while still taking advantage of the VIB sale.

The insert had a little beauty quiz but then it also described the products in the box.

And here is everything we got! I’ll give you all the deets below!

Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer ($29): This is one of those cult-classic products, and one that I have personally never owned. I sort of wish I had gotten this towards the beginning of summer since it’s slightly warmer than the bronzers that I gravitate to. I also think the Hula Lite would be bit better for me, but this doesn’t look TOO terribly orange and I think if I use a light hand, this will look nice! And perhaps make my makeup bag a bit lighter, since it’s a sample size.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick in C211 ($22): This is a lovely cool-toned berry shade! The formula is one of the creamiest I’ve ever felt and was extremely comfortable. Of course, it didn’t last through dinner but I wouldn’t expect it to. I will say to be sure to exfoliate your lips before using this (but that’s probably good advice for all lip products) because the dry patches seemed a bit highlighted in this formula somehow. Of course, my lips didn’t feel dry at all, but I could see where I had some issues. I recently went a bit more cool-toned with my hair, so I think this will look nice!

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare C+ Collagen Deep Cream ($72): This is a products I am super interested in. One because of the price tag but two because Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare is very well regarded, and I’ve had good experiences with most products I’ve tried. I haven’t tried this yet, but I thought I might put this on my neck and chest area, since that’s an area I often neglect.

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base ($26): I feel positive I have tried this before, but I haven’t tried it in a long time. Since then, I’ve seen Casey Holmes rave about it, and she says it’s great for people with oily lids. I have combo-oily skin, but my eyelids usually aren’t too terribly oily, which is good. However, if that’s something you struggle with, this eyeshadow primer might be for you!

DryBar Southern Belle Volume-Boosting Shampoo ($26) and Conditioner ($26): If my hair wasn’t so light right now, this is a shampoo and conditioner duo I would love to try out. I may hold onto it to try it later, but it’s possible I will donate it as well, since DryBar products historically don’t really give me much volume. I’m just trying NOT to wash my hair as much as possible, which really cuts down on testing out new shampoos.

MOROCCANOIL Dry Texture Spray ($28): I do try to make my hair as big as possible, so I’m excited to try this the next time I curl my hair. I worry that I’ve been curling my hair on too high of a heat, so I am going to turn it wayyyyy down and hope that a product like this will help keep my curls bouncy and voluminous. However, this stuff definitely won’t make your hair a dry, crunchy mess, which some texture sprays are known to do.

Final Grade: A

I’m really excited about the August Play! by Sephora box! I’m not going to use the shampoo/conditioner packet but I’ll definitely get some use out of all of the other products, so that’s a total win for me. I’ll keep you posted if any of these become favorites!
