Once again, I received an awesome box from Allure Beauty Box! Do they ever have bad boxes? I honestly can’t think of one. I’m sure they have but like… when? Three years ago? Who could know. The point is that Allure Beauty Box is the best box out there right now, and you should all get it with our referral link. Oh, but I guess you want a blog now, huh? Fine.

ALLURE BEAUTY BOX

Price: $15.00/month

Box Type: Monthly beauty box featuring 6 high end beauty product samples (and sometimes full-sized products!).

Why you’ll love it: Top brands, great price, new products that you will love! A great way to sample expensive products without committing to the price tag. Each box comes with an Allure mini-magazine that showcases each product and is as quality as you’d expect from a magazine powerhouse like Allure.

Here is the November Allure Mini-Mag. This month they actually partnered with Anthropologie, who, unbeknownst to me, sells a LOT of facial masks. They are apparently really into it.

And here are all the masks! (And one other thing.) It’s a pretty decent spread of products, if I do say so myself. Also, I think it’s cool that they sent a whole box of masks, and even included hair ties, so you could pull your hair back while you are “mask-ing.” I think the thought behind the box is really good. Super cohesive!

Lapcos Pearl Brightening Metallic Sheet Mask ($14/5): I haven’t used this particular sheet mask yet, but it’s one of the masks that Anthropologie sells. This one contains pearl extract that is supposed to revitalize the skin.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask ($8/each): OK, so I actually have a problem with this sheet mask. I actually have the same problem with the Patchology Eye Gels below. In both cases, it was suggested on the product page to use prior to make up to help prep the skin. And in true sheet mask fashion, you aren’t supposed to rinse off the mask, obviously, as that would remove all the serums and good things that the mask is bringing you. However, my makeup balled up like CRAZY over both of these options. I could just feel it pill up on me as I was putting it on, but I was at a point in my makeup routine where I really couldn’t go back. I just had to power through it. And I just peeled foundation/concealer off of my face all day long on two separate occasions, since I used the Glow Recipe mask one day and the Patchology Eye Gels another day. Obviously, the Glow Recipe mask was an all-over sheet mask so I had much more pilling up all day with that one.

However, other than being a TERRIBLE primer, it was a really pleasant mask experience. It is a gel mask, versus a paper mask, and it is in a light pink color that almost looks like your skin color. I mean, someone could definitely tell something weird is happening to your face, but it’s not like the terrifying Jason-esque paper masks that I like to wear and chase my husband around the house in. And because it’s a gel mask, that actually comes in two pieces, it conforms to your face really nicely. So it was easy to do some chores while I was waiting for the mask to do its thing. Do I think I’ll re-purchase? No. Not for $8 a pop. But if another one came my way, I would just use it at night versus under makeup.

Kocostar Rose Lip Mask ($38/20): I haven’t used this lip mask yet and now I’m afraid to use it in the morning before I do my makeup because of the traumatic experiences I have had with the Glow Recipe and the Patchology masks. However, this mask is supposed to nourish not only your lips but the skin around your lips. I might try this in the evening to see what I think about it. I’ve tried a lip mask from another brand before and it was nice because it was made of that same hydra-gel that the Glow Recipe/Patchology eye gels are made from, so it stuck really easily to my lips. Plus it had a slit in it so I could talk and do things. However, I don’t know if this one is the same! TBD! Keep an eye out for my next empties blog (in a few months!) because I’ll be back with the full review!

Patchology Flashpatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels ($15/5): I pretty much spoke my peace about the eye gels above. I just don’t understand how we are supposed to put these one prior to makeup to help de-puff and then have the makeup just ball up all day from it?

Glamglow Supermud Activated Charcoal Clearing Treatment ($59): Oh GlamGlow. What once seemed like a glamorous, fancy brand to me, now sort of seems like the emperor’s new clothes. I don’t feel like their products are worth the money. Their masks might be OK but for $60? Nah. That’s gonna be a no from me dawg. I am holding off on using this mask right now because it’s definitely aimed at more problematic skin since it has the activated charcoal (amongst other skin-clearing ingredients) in it, and my skin is in decent shape these days. I may hold onto it and use it as a spot treatment if I get any blemishes, or I may put it in my donation bin. Either way, I don’t really need to use it now.

Starskin Exfoliating Double-Layer Foot Mask Socks ($15): Y’allllll. This is like a fancy version of Baby Foot, which is a foot exfoliation mask. It’s super gross but hear me out. First, you rinse your feet and dry them off. Then you put on these little booties and wear them for about an hour. After that… you wait for about 3-4 days. Then all of your foot skin will start peeling off, like your foot is a snake shedding its skin. But what is revealed underneath is smooth, soft skin! It is a gross process but I use a product like this about every other month. This one seems particularly expensive, when you can get cheaper options from Amazon that are the exact same thing. Just search for Baby Foot (I promise it only sounds weird but it’s not) and you’ll find a lot of generic versions where you can get packs of three for the cost of just one of these. But this one did the trick, I would recommend it as well. I just know you can get cheaper options elsewhere.

Invisibobble Original ($7.95): I think these hair ties are super cute looking but I don’t actually like them for my hair. Even though they are supposed to be non-damaging, I feel like they kind of pull at my hair. I am all about that 90’s scrunchie life now. (Though to be fair, I do not wear my scrunchies in public – but I wear them around the house because they don’t damage my hair when I pull it back!)

Final Grade: A+

While I didn’t love every mask in this box, I loved TRYING the masks in this box, and that’s really what counts, right? I am glad I got to try the Glow Recipe sheet mask because I had heard about it and thought it looked really cool. Same with the eye gels – I had always wanted to try some of those prior to doing my makeup, I had just never had the opportunity to do so before! I thought the variety of masks in the box was really neat, and I thought it was cool that they even threw in some hair ties. All in all, while this isn’t the highest value Allure Beauty Box of all time, I thought it was such a cohesive, well-thought out box.

Seriously, y’all. Why haven’t you subscribed to this box yet? It’s so good. Click here if you want to check it out with our referral link!
