I apologize for getting this review up late, but I thought the box was great and still wanted to share with y’all!
Price: $10/month
Box Type: Beauty products, 5-6 deluxe samples
Why you’ll love it: Ummmm, did you see it’s all fun products that come from Sephora? Some boxes will send you random products from brands you’ve never heard of before but Play! by Sephora will only send you brands from their own store – basically all high end fun things you are excited to try! Here’s a breakdown of the benefits:
- The awesome products, of course.
- The $10 you spend earns you Beauty Insider points if you are already part of their rewards program. (I’m VIB Rouge because I clearly have A Problem buying makeup.)
- Each month you will also receive a card that you can bring into Sephora that will earn you 50 additional bonus points on your purchase!

The Insert
This month’s little insert was really cute, and talked about all the products the PLAY! box has sent to subscribers over the past year by the numbers. It also describes the December products, as usual. It also mentioned that they included an extra product this time, which we will discuss later.
And here’s all the products I received in the December PLAY! by Sephora box!
Inside the Box
Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator ($39): I haven’t used Clinique products in a long time so I’m not sure if I’m going to hold onto this or find it a new home. However, this is one of the first gel cream moisturizers I’ve seen from Clinique, so I may keep it and test it out to see how well it wears under makeup.
Trèstique Lip Glaze in Paris Pink ($25): First of all, the Trèstique packaging is super cute. Second of all, it does not contain any castor oil. YAY. So I get to keep this one! This looks like a nice, “your lips but better” kind of shade. (See the swatch a little ways down.) The full-size actually comes with a little lip primer on the other side, which is convenient AND cute.
IGK Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel ($29): This was the extra gift Sephora threw in this month. This is supposed to help give an effortless air-dried style. It says it’s lightweight so it shouldn’t weigh hair down. You are supposed to rub it through hair when it’s almost dry. I am thinking it will prevent frizz and keep it smooth and straight.
dpHUE Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse Mini ($15): I’ve actually tried this before and I am thinking about using this again soon. I can’t remember if I tried it prior to going so blonde, so I wanted to check with my hair stylist before using this. My hair stylist says that apple cider vinegar alone is a great way to clarify hair. This version contains mostly Apple Cider Vinegar but it also has things like lavender extract, argan oil, and aloe vera to help nourish hair. My hair stylist gave me the OK to use this on my hair, which is great news!
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara in Black ($23): I’ve used this mascara over the years and while it’s a fine mascara, it’s not my fave so I wouldn’t buy the full-size. (Especially since I don’t buy from Tarte right now.) However, I decided to try it again because it had been awhile and it’s been working great on my lower lashes without smudging. Recently, I have been dealing with lower-lash mascara smudging issues and I’m on the hunt for a new lower lash mascara. Like I said, I won’t buy this one, but it was nice!
Touch in Sol Metallist Liquid Foil & Glitter Eyeshadow Duo in Titiana ($25): I have swatched this product in Sephora after I first learned of it, but I didn’t know there were minis until now! The liquid shadow side is very pretty – I tried to capture that it’s a duochrome on camera, but even with my new lens, I am not the best photographer. The glitter side is a little chunky, so I’m not quite sure how I’m going to work with that, but I do think this will be fun to play around with.
Final Grade: A+
I’ve been considering canceling the PLAY! by Sephora box but this box was fantastic, so I think I’m going to hold onto my subscription for a few more months – just in case. This is one of those rare situations where I’ll use every product in the box, and I’m excited!

I requested a sample of the ACV rinse in my most recent Sephora order. Instead they sent me some Bvlgari perfume. Gross.
I’ve hated every Bvlgari perfume I’ve ever tried.
