If you remember, at the end of 2017, I learned that Beautylish does something every year called the Luckybag. Now, if you don’t know what Beautylish is, it’s essentially a site like Sephora or Dermstore.com that sells very high-end makeup and skincare. So, these Luckybags are essentially mystery bags of super fancy makeup. There was the regular bag, which I purchased, and it was $75. Then there was the bigger size for $125, but that was sold out when I went to buy, though I am kind of glad because I don’t need to spend that much. Probably.
Like any sort of mystery bag, it’s really the luck of the draw! You don’t know what you are going to get. But you know what Beautylish sells, so you know that the value will be getting well over the $75 you pay.
Inside the Luckybag
And here is what I got this year! Immediately, I was happier than what I got last year but I was also like… meh? But a more positive meh.
Viseart Petit Pro 3 ($30): I feel like this is the “hero” product in the box, since it’s an eyeshadow palette from Viseart, but I’m still not sure how I’m feeling about it. I definitely need to play with this more because swatches do not tell the whole story, but I did not really like how the shadows felt when I was swatching them. Again, I mainly use swatches to show you the colors in the palette, versus how they perform, but I had a hard time getting that violet shade to show up. I think you would probably need to use a bit of setting spray with that one. But I would expect a bit more from Viseart, ya know? But I know Emily Noel on YouTube freaking loves this palette, so I do want to experiment with it a bit to see if I can come up with any looks that I really like. It’s kind of a weird mix of colors though, so my brain is kind of like… ??? Help. So… TBD on this, but I’m not totally mad at this but not totally excited either.
I did the swatches up and down. Essentially, I did the matte shade and then the shimmery shade right below, all the way around the circle. (Also, how satisfying are these shadow stencils. I love them.)
Good Molecules Wake Up Eye Serum ($?): This product was wrapped in a paper that said, “Coming Soon,” so I really don’t have a lot of information about it. But I am going to try it out because I’ve essentially stopped buying eye creams until I use the ones I have, and this is a giant bottle, so maybe this will be good? I have no idea.
By Terry Rouge Expert Click Stick in 3 Bare Me ($32): I don’t understand rich people. I don’t understand the entire By Terry brand, and any of their products. They just don’t totally make sense to me. It’s called Rouge Expert, which sort of reminds me of blush, but then the box said something about contour. But it’s a lip product. And it’s one of those annoying lip products where you have to click it up, versus twist. So you can’t twist it back down. That is super annoying. They say one click is all you need to apply. But it annoys me so much I don’t even want to swatch it. I hate By Terry.
Wayne Goss #13 Face Brush ($53): When I opened this box, I didn’t realize this was the most expensive product in the box. Apparently this is for foundation, but it’s a natural hair brush, so I’m sort of interested in how it applies my makeup. Historically, people (like me) tend to recommend synthetic hair brushes for foundation, as the natural hair brushes can absorb some of the product. However, Wayne Goss is a pro makeup artist and I trust him, so I’ll give it a try!
Cover FX Perfect Light Highlighting Powder in Sunlight ($17): This is perhaps the most surprising product in the box to me. When I first saw this, I assumed it would be too dark for me, but it really actually looks really nice! I tried to take a picture of the swatch but it looked very much like the color of my skin and I’m not that great of a photographer. Also I’m fairly lazy when it comes to this box because… meh? But this does have a pretty more golden sheen on my skin without being an obvious line. I do think this is a more “natural” sheen and natural is not my current vibe. But it might be – I’m not getting rid of this, but I’m not putting it into my current rotation.
This is a bit closer of the highlighter and brush handle with the number.
Mykito My Small PVC Pod ($12): This shit. Y’all. When I saw this PVC bag after spending $75, I was like… no. I immediately put this in my giveaway bag but upon second thought, I might keep it to see if it will hold brushes. Well, No. I already have a travel brush pouch. This is stupid.
Final Grade: C
I thought this box was OK. I did get another By Terry product and I am just… done with By Terry. I hate the brand and I think their products are weird and confusing. So that review goes a lot like that. But I did get a little Viseart palette and a really nice Wayne Goss brush, so not all is lost. And the CoverFX highlighter was nice as well. But that PVC bag is insulting garbage. So yes, I did get more than the $75 I paid but… I don’t know. Will I do this again? Maybe. The same day I received this, I got my $25 Colourpop Mystery Bag and I enjoyed those products a MILLION times better than these. So…. I will likely do the Beautylish Luckybag again because I guess I am a glutton for punishment, but I will DEFINITELY get every mystery bag from Colourpop. (Blog on that one coming soon!)

Dear Daughter, I don’t know nearly as much as you do about make up, but I would have given the box a D. Fifty three dollars seems like an over priced brush and there was only one thing in the box that I would be interested in trying the next time we visit (the Cover Perfect Light Highlighting Powder). I would think twice before ordering it again. ❤️ 🙋🏻 mom
PS the PVC bag was terrible. 😬
I know… it’s more the fun of the gamble. A friend of mine got a box I would have killed for! A ton of stuff I would have used. I don’t know. I’ll probably forget how disappointed I am by December 2019 and I’ll do the whole thing over again. 🤷🏼♀️
You’re reviews are so funny. But seriously though your bag compared to others didn’t seem to be great. Especially that pvc bag. I hope next year you will be luckier!
Thank you! That means a lot! I think I’ll try the LUCKYBAG one more year before I call it.
