It really IS the most wonderful time of the year when the POPSUGAR MustHave box comes to your door. Without a doubt, this is a favorite of both Jill and I and we anxiously look forward for internet spoilers so we can see what we are going to be receiving. We don’t care about getting surprised. We want to KNOW. Jill and I both pay for this subscription… because it is AWESOME. While October was a weird exception, almost every month is wonderful. POPSUGAR MustHave is a lifestyle box that includes beauty, home, wellness, and foot type items for $39.95/month. These boxes are so wonderfully curated and opening each one is always a treat.
The insert card said that the inspiration for this month’s box was: Cheers, Party Ready, Indulgence, Holiday Treats, Sparkle and Glamour. OK then! I’m all about all those things and I think the contents of the box did a great job of representing those things!
SPUN by Subtle Luxury Speckled Metallic Scarf ($62)
Lauren: The big ticket item this month was this wonderful grey and gold flecked scarf and I am pretty much in love. It is gorgeously neutral but still also manages to stand out. Any woman would be able to pull this off with a number of different outfits. Not only is it beautiful, it’s also functional being so soft and warm.
Jill: This scarf was by far the best surprise this month. I had seen a spoiler picture and wasn’t all that blown away by it, but in person it is gorgeous. It’s soft and light but still warm and functional, plus the gray is beautiful with the gold flecks. It really has become a staple for me to grab on my way out of the house, it’s so neutral it goes with just about anything and it’s great as an accessory or for warmth. Love it.
Sparklepop Sydney Necklace ($42)
Lauren: This necklace is one of those pieces that I wouldn’t naturally gravitate to if I was out shopping but I would happily wear it if it was given to me, like it was. Sort of. As you can see in the picture, this necklace is multi-functional: it can be worn wrapped around the neck a couple times or worn as a pendant. I recently wore it pendant-style with a grey t-shirt, jeans and a leather jacket and I feel like I looked so cool. Like a celebrity leaving an airport. (That really was the look I was going for.) This is so pretty and sparkly and would pair beautifully with the scarf as well. If it was colder, I could have paired the scarf with the aforementioned outfit and it would have worked well.
Jill: Unlike Lauren, this is exactly the kind of jewelry I wear. Simple and gold is my thing. I have worn this necklace wrapped around my neck as a short layered piece and I really like it. The stone is obviously fake and it’s a little more costume-y than I would normally wear, but it works on this chain. You can’t really tell from the picture, but the chain has texture. It’s got little gold knobs every inch or so, which gives it some character. Definitely unique, definitely awesome.
Canvas Dauville Platinum Bowl ($29)
Lauren: As I get older, I have found that I like things that I used to find ridiculous, like this tiny bowl. In my 20’s, I probably would have been like, “Oh great, a tiny bowl. What will I do with this?” Whereas now, I’m like, “WHERE IN MY HOUSE AM I GOING TO PUT THIS ADORABLE TINY BOWL?!” After putting a lot of thought in this, I decided that the pretty tiny bowl is going to live on my nightstand so it can hold my chapstick and… that’s pretty much it. It’s pretty tiny. But it can also hold bobby pins and hair ties so my night stand looks less hectic.
Jill: When I saw a spoiler picture of this bowl, I was SO EXCITED. The bowl looked so cool, and I love unique pottery pieces. The outside is unglazed and the inside is glazed with a chrome finish. When I opened the box, I actually laughed out loud at how ridiculously small the bowl is. Still, it’s really cool and is wonderful as a little jewelry dish on my dresser for when I’m too lazy to put away whatever I’m wearing (which is pretty much every day).
Smashbox Be Legendary Long-Wear Lip Lacquer ($24)
Lauren: I was really excited when I saw this color (I believe it is Bordeaux) because it is very similar to the Pantone color of the year, Marsala. This lip color is pretty opaque, which I like. This color is obviously very on-trend and I think many women could wear this color. Now I want to see what it looks like on Jill. I would recommend using a lip pencil with this as it could get a bit messy and bleed a bit but this does wear well. I like to wear a clear lip pencil with things like this.
Jill: I wasn’t sure what to think when I got this gloss. I typically wear subtle coral and pink glosses, not so much super dark, rich colors like this. But when Lauren sent me a picture of her wearing it, my mind was blown. It’s such a great color. It even looks good on me, instead of making me look like a clown. Lauren, I’ll text you a picture later on!
Knot & Bow Parcel Tags ($4)
Lauren: I liked that they included gift tags in the December box– very timely. But what I like most about them is that they aren’t Christmas colors! They are perfect to use year-round! They could have obviously been used on Christmas gifts as well but I am choosing to hold onto them for other gifts this year since they are so cute.
Jill: I really have no use for these little tags, but my dad seemed interested in them so I gave them to him. Giving us tags/cards has been a Popsugar trend this year, I’m hoping that changes. Meh.
Williams-Sonoma Cupcake Mix in Vanilla Bean ($14.95)
Lauren: The food item this month is a fancy cupcake mix and I couldn’t be more thrilled. However, I have stared at this can more times than I am willing to admit wondering if there is frosting in it also. How can they send us a cupcake mix but no frosting? Otherwise we are just making muffins. (I understand that isn’t entirely true.) But still. I feel like they got me a chore… if I wanted to make these I would have to go get icing separately that that is annoying to me. Also annoying to me is that I keep forgetting to buy icing so I can’t make these. That is just a personal problem, though. I am, however, excited to try these once I can get my act together.
Jill: I’m with Lauren – if you are going to send me cupcake mix, you’d better send some frosting. It’s not a personal problem, friend. It’s a cupcake problem. Still, I will make these and eat them whether I have frosting for them or not. That’s just how I roll.
