I was about to draft this blog to post on Friday but then I found out this box goes on sale tomorrow, Thursday August 9! Yay! (And also, good thing I checked!) SkinStore’s newest collaboration is with the hair brand Philip Kingsley, and much like the SkinStore X Caudalíe Limited-Edition Beauty Box, there are only a limited number of boxes… except this time I’m giving you a head’s up. I’m awesome like that, right?
What is also kind of cool about this box is that I had no idea it was coming my way. I knew I was going to get the Caudalíe box but this one was completely a surprise. So maybe I’m on SkinStore’s PR list now? At least for this box I am. And I am VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

First of all. THIS BOX. It is GORGEOUS. The flowers! It reminds me of one of my favorite Birchboxes that I kept because it is just so pretty.
I have found in both of these collaboration boxes I have received have included a very comprehensive magazine, providing pretty comprehensive information about the products and the brand, which is really nice. This was especially nice for me as I had never heard of Philip Kingsley products before. I also learned that Philip Kingsley coined the phrase, “bad hair day.” Who knew!
Since 1957, Philip Kingsley Trichological Consultants have provided tailored services and bespoke products for a healthy scalp and hair, to make it look and feel its best. Apparently, Philip Kingsley was the first in the field to connect hair health to nutrition and he was a pioneer in recognizing that a healthy scalp is a pre-requisite for healthy hair. Cool thing to know: “Trichology” means the scientific study of the hair and scalp. The Philip Kingsley range was formulated by the world’s leading Trichologists. Neat!
So here are all the products that are included! I’ll go through them all individually below. I only received the box on Monday so I have only had a few days to play with the products and thus, I haven’t had the chance to use every single one. But I’ll do my best to explain them to the best of my ability. I’m no Trichologist, but you know – I’ll do my best.
Philip Kingsley Body Building Shampoo ($32/ full-size): I have been using this shampoo the past few days and I have really enjoyed it! It’s perfect for my hair type, as I am constantly looking for MOAR BODY MOAR VOLUME. I think it’s been working quite nicely!
Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Conditioner ($77- for whatever reason, I could only find the giant bottle of this one online… but you COULD just spend $55 and just get All The Things!): I think this has been a really nice conditioner. Since I color my hair, I do need something a little more heavy duty to keep my hair from looking dry and gross and so I think I enjoy this particular one. I didn’t notice that it weighed my hair down either.
Philip Kingsley PK Prep Perfecting Spray ($33 FULL SIZE!): I use a heat protectant spray almost every day so I was really interested in this, and I’ve been enjoying it so far. This non-greasy formula helps protect hair not only from heat styling but also from UV rays using Pro-Vitamin B5. Here’s what they say about the science-y shit:
Synergising Glycerin, Lactitol and Xylitol, the priming spray deeply nourishes the scalp, whilst Polymers add body and bounce, leaving you with voluminous, luscious locks every time you blow-dry.
This is best for color-treated, breakage-prone or dry hair for a frizz-free, salon style.
Philip Kingsley Geranium and Neroli Elasticizer ($55/full-size): This is one of the products that I haven’t had a chance to try yet, as you are supposed to put it on damp hair prior to shampooing and leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing off. I shower in the mornings in a locker room so I wasn’t really in a position where I was able to do all that. Though I also just read I could leave it on for 1-2 minutes before washing. WELL THAT IS MUCH MORE DOABLE. Oh well. This product sort of seems like a hair mask, that can help over-processed hair in need of strength and hydration. You can use this twice a week to make your hair bouncy and healthy. I’m definitely looking forward to trying this now that I know that I don’t have to wait 20 minutes!
Philip Kingsley Citrus Sunshine Swimcap ($17 – FULL SIZE!): This is the other product I haven’t had a chance to try– mostly because since Monday, I have not gone to the beach or to a pool. I do think this product is really cool though – it’s supposed to help protect your hair from the elements typically found when enjoying those activities. It contains sunscreen to help protect your hair (especially color-treated hair) from the sun to prevent fading and breakage. I’m not the most outdoorsy gal so I think I am going to hold onto this for our cruise next year! (I’ll meet you for dinner at 7:45 in 233 days, Mom.)
Philip Kingsley Handbag Brush ($22- FULL SIZE!): This is a cute little brush that sort of reminds me of those black and white Paul Mitchell brushes from back in the day. Do you remember what I’m talking about? Anyway, this is a pretty basic brush but it feels really well made and I know I’ll get some use out of it.
Final Grade: A!
I was pleasantly surprised by the SkinStore X Philip Kingsley Limited Edition Beauty Box! I mean, I was surprised I received it but then I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the products I used. I was also excited to learn about a new brand and read about all the science behind the Philip Kingsley products.
